Position Overview
This position plays a critical role as technology owners within the Department of Digital Information Infrastructure and Engineering team. The Lead Communications Engineer utilizes their skills, experience, and talent to recommend, design, implement, and support next generation technologies across the enterprise. The position will be responsible for primary technical ownership of communications technologies currently used in LCPS to include switching, routing, wireless networking, telephony, and unified communications systems.
Roles and Responsibilities
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
• Develops strategies and collaborates with technical and non-technical staff on core infrastructure projects.
• Develops all appropriate processes to ensure the district gains maximum benefit from supported technologies.
• Designs and deploys new systems and enhancements to existing systems.
• Manages network, voice, and unified communication engineering projects and reports status updates to senior leadership.
• Measures effectiveness of existing core infrastructure systems and strategically design and implements improvements.
• Supports and implements technology within LCPS that includes switching, routing, wireless networking, firewall, internet content filter, telephony, and unified communications solutions from vendors including Avaya, Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, and others.
• Builds process to ensure efficient support of all core infrastructure systems.
• Resolves complex network and voice engineering issues while working collaboratively with other departments.
• Resolves network and voice issues by applying outstanding communication, analytical, technical, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to ensure all systems operate effectively and efficiently to maximize education opportunities for students.
• Monitors and tests system performance to include delivering of statistics and reports.
• Provides guidance to other technical staff.
Qualifications
Below are the qualifications for this position:
• Bachelors’ degree in technology field from an accredited university or college
• Five years’ experience with developing and maintaining core infrastructure systems or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training to demonstrate the standards, concepts and guidelines to perform the responsibilities of the position
• Experience servicing computer system and networks
• Proven working experience supporting core infrastructure systems to include wired and wireless networking (LAN/WAN), data circuit management, firewall management, and associated network monitoring tools as well as analog, digital, VoIP and UC solutions
• Ability to align core infrastructure projects and initiatives with division mission and goals
• Ability to conduct research into new technologies and determine fit for division
• Ability to train staff in the operation of data and voice networks
• Strong customer service, organization, and communications skills

Pay Scale: Universal 14
FLSA status: Exempt
Months/Days/Hours: 12 months, 248 days, 8 hours per day
Reports to: Supervisor, Communications Engineering
Salary Range: $74,325 - $128,195 annual
