Position Overview:
The LACDA is seeking a dynamic and passionate Risk Manager who exhibits a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness, confidentiality, and professional maturity. This person must be energetic, organized, flexible, and able to interact professionally with various levels of employees, constituents, and Board office officials. Under the general direction of the Director of Administrative Services and in collaboration with the Human Resources Unit, the Risk Manager develops, establishes, and manages the LACDA’s Risk Management Programs and advises the LACDA on all matters related to risk and liability.

- Develops, establishes, and manages the LACDA’s risk management programs including workers’ compensation, third party claims, safety in the workplace, and insurance & indemnification
- Develops risk management policies and reviews and assesses protocols; makes recommendations and implements modifications and improvements
- Recommends and implements safety and security policies including emergency preparedness and evacuation plans
- Upholds SB198, Injury & Illness Prevention Program, Cal/OSHA, and COVID-19 Prevention Standards
- Procures appropriate levels of insurance and excess insurance policies; negotiates and works closely with insurance brokers, carriers, third party administrators, underwriters and legal counsel
- Evaluates incident reports, trends, and claims to recommend corrective action
- Recommends settlement on third party and workers’ compensation claims, provides input on cost containment, and represents the LACDA at depositions and court hearings
- Manages and facilitates risk management trainings and safety committee meetings
- Ensures LACDA facilities comply with Section 504 and the American’s with Disabilities Act
- Liaises with industrial clinics to ensure excellent care to our employees
- Partners with the leave of absence Analyst to determine reasonable accommodations following an interactive process
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, PDL and ADAA
- Provides dynamic supervision, leadership, and direction to assigned staff
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
- Principles, practices, and techniques of risk management, claims administration, and safety program administration

- Perform Disaster Service Worker duties in the event of a County or agency declared emergency
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration or a related field
- Five (5) years of professional experience in risk management, workers’ compensation, claims administration, and insurance and indemnification, including three (3) years of supervisory experience
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation or Certified Professional in Disability Management (CPDM) certification is highly desirable.
NOTE: Salary compensation is Dependent on Qualifications (experience, education, skills and abilities). Initial salary placement is generally made at the beginning to mid-point of the posted range. New hires are not eligible to start at the maximum of the posted range.
Successful applicants must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License, an acceptable driving record and comply with the LACDA's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
