Los Alamos National Laboratory is Hiring a Maintenance Support Specialist 2 Near Los Alamos, NM

What You Will Do

Reporting directly to the Institutional Facilities Work Control Team Lead, this position is responsible for preparing reports from the CMMS/Asset Suites System and other related systems. This position develops and maintains the preventive maintenance (PM) program in assigned area; is responsible for on-going processes to identify equipment, equipment routine maintenance requirements, current actual cost, estimated cost and proposed estimated cost; reviews PM cost estimates; attaches cost reports to work order packages for customer review prior to completion; and screens all external work requests PMs.

This position will also update maintenance history for equipment in the maintenance management system (CMMS); maintain and continuously improve the program for preventive maintenance on equipment; evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements; adhere to LANL safety, environment, security, and other compliance requirements; work in team environment and promote customer service; and assist the organization in achieving safe, effective, and compliant operations, preventing pollution, minimizing waste and conserving resources.

The successful candidate will:
  • Maintain required safety and security training, assures safety and security compliance, and make safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
  • Aid in interpreting governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in developing, and monitoring auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget, and schedule.
  • Assist in maintaining database and other programs as required for use in development of performance measurements and other status reports.
  • Help evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
  • Provide issues management support, review and compile data, and assist in the development of final management assessments and/or recommendations.
  • May assist in conducting training for facility maintenance personnel on maintenance program and evaluate and critique performance.
  • Assist in implementing related documentation systems and ensures compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities and security/compliance.
  • Assist in performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure maintenance programs are implemented.
What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Expertise: Working knowledge of and experience with document control and records management. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility maintenance and performance assurance. Working knowledge of quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures.

Communication/Teamwork: Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of processes supporting the maintenance program to both technical and non-technical personnel. Skill in the preparation and presentation of reports. Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Working experience and or knowledge with Asset Suites software application.
  • Active Q Clearance.
  • Understanding of the LANL's work control and facility policies, practices, and procedures.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
