Loretto is Hiring an Assistant Nurse Manager LPN Near Syracuse, NY

Overview

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager, LPN, evaluates, plans, implements and monitors the effectiveness of nursing care delivered to the patients using best practice nursing standards. The Assistant Nurse Manager, LPN uses management and administrative skills to accomplish corporate, department and facility goals. Additionally, the Assistant Nurse Manager executes and adheres to established policies and procedures, as well as systemic clinical changes.

Responsibilities

Job Duties specific to this position:

Resident Care:

  • Manages the clinical care planning process to ensure the coordination and delivery of quality patient care. Reviews and updates the care plan accordingly.
  • Manages the delivery of patient care, maximizing quality and efficiency as well as applying best practice guidelines. Provides direct patient care when indicated.
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment for clients/residents, staff and visitors.
  • Acts as the clinical liaison to other Loretto facilities and programs regarding client/resident needs, etc. Manages complex and routine patient situations in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensures residents/clients are evaluated upon admission and periodically as conditions change or as needed.
  • Obtains and implements physician orders, checking for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicates effectively with the client/resident, family and interdisciplinary team and ensures staff members communicate effectively as well. Maintains the highest level of customer service within the area of responsibility.

Management and Employee Development:

  • Provides leadership and direction to personnel in accordance with organizational/ILS/RHCF goals and mission.
  • Enforces the bargaining unit contract fairly and consistently. Addresses issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates the clinical competencies and on-going educational needs of the staff. Updates orientation or training materials as needed. Shares current knowledge and up-to-date clinical expertise with staff through formal and informal education. Takes responsibility for own education and stays clinically current.
  • Runs required monthly staff meetings across all shifts.
  • Mentors new employees and fosters positive, collaborative relationships.

Compliance:

  • Ensures patient care delivered with best practice standards.
  • Develops, reviews and revises policies, procedures and other applicable documentation to ensure regulatory agency standards are met. Interprets policies, procedures and regulations for the staff.
  • Enforces the bargaining unit contract fairly and consistently. Addresses issues in a timely and appropriate manner.

Documentation:

  • Directs the processes that facilitate the thorough and accurate completion of required documentation. Examples include but are not limited to: skin//wound reports, ADLs, weights, nourishment, monthly MAR/TAR checks, Admissions, Discharges, incident reports, investigations, audits.

Quality:

  • Monitors adherence to the patient care standards through QAPI/QA processes. Is actively involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of QAPI activities. Serves as an active member of the QAPI/QA committees.
  • In cooperation/collaboration with the QAPI/QA department, directs the data collection of all complaint investigations, incident reports and critical incident investigations. Summarizes information and takes action after consultation with Director/QAPI/QA committee.
  • Reviews quality improvement data system information to make improvements in quality measures.
  • Keeps Director and Nurse Managers informed of patient care problems and issues in timely manner.

Budget:

  • Manages unit expenses and costs (staff overtime, linens, supplies, etc.).

Job duties as a Manager:

  • As a Manager, this position is responsible for the ongoing operations and routine decision-making within the function, department or site. Emphasis is on executing strategy and tactics. May provide input on strategic matters.
  • Interprets and applies organization policy, ensuring all activities are in compliance.
  • Delegates, organizes and coordinates the daily operations of departments within the function, department or site.
  • Promotes and role models a culture of service excellence and customer service within their functional area.
  • Creates, promotes and maintains collaborative relationships and partnerships with peers throughout the organization.
  • Promotes and encourages teamwork among employees and supervisors, and between departments. Communicates ideas and goals clearly and is an effective listener. Ensures that information is effectively communicated and shared throughout the department and organization.
  • Provides and encourages effective coaching. Promotes a positive environment of constructive feedback.
  • Uses effective communication skills such as active listening, unbiased and nonjudgmental language, and an open communication style.
  • Uses critical thinking and effective communication skills during conflict resolution, problem solving, decision-making, coaching and other complex dialogues.
  • Keeps current in his/her area of specialization and in emerging and best practices.
  • Fosters process improvements for greater operating efficiency and resident/customer service. Ensures optimal workflow and adequate resources.
  • Actively leads or participates in meetings, teams and task forces as requested.
  • Ensures adequate skills, training and development among staff.
  • Manages and supervises assigned personnel, including performance management, scheduling, and orientation. With the Director and Human Resources guidance, makes or approves recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations and similar actions. In conjunction with HR, resolves grievances and other personnel problems in a fair, timely and consistent manner.
  • May have input to or recommendations for operating budgets.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience providing direct are nursing preferably in an acute/long term care setting.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience (such as Charge Nurse/Team Leader).
  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Current NYS license and registration as a practical nurse required.
  • Proven patient evaluation skills.
  • Current knowledge of best practice nursing standards and care.
  • Proficient in the care planning process.
  • Ability and knowledge to respond in emergency situations.
  • Ability to analyze problems, plan resolution strategies, implement solutions and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ability to lead, guide and motivate staff.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory and mental impairments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs and able to learn new software rapidly.
