The Lorain County Board of Commissioners Storm water District is hiring for a Seasonal Field Assistant!

Some Duties include:

• Process water samples using laboratory equipment such as colorimeters, turbidity meters, beakers and other glassware; etc.
• Perform outfall screening of pipes and ditches throughout Lorain County Storm Water District’s designated MS4 areas; etc.
• Properly collect water samples from pipes, rivers, streams, and other sampling locations as necessary; etc.
• Weed whipping and herbicide spraying; remove obstructions by hand, tools or other mechanical methods as assigned.
• Investigations and Inspections of waterways such as ditches, rivers, stormwater infrastructure, BMPs, construction sites, and flooding complaints.

Education: High school Diploma/ GED

-Preferred: Some college

Required Qualifications

• Valid Ohio Driver’s License
• Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident with ability to work in the U.S
• Must be insurable under County vehicle insurance plan.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a higher education program in Biology, Chemistry, Natural Resources, or Environmental Field.
• Ability to read and understand maps/satellite imagery and compass direction
• Ohio Department of Agriculture Trained Service Persons letter. (Will train if required.)
• Basic chemistry or laboratory skills.
• Identification of native and/or non-native species
• Experience with field work and safety practices.
• First Aid/CPR certification
