Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Fleet and Equipment Mechanic to support repairs and preventative maintenance on all Longwood fleet vehicles and equipment. Vehicles and equipment include tractors, pick-ups, diesel dump trucks (under and over 26,000 lbs.), mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, blowers, snow equipment, small utility vehicles, excavators, backhoes, swap loaders and generators. Responsibilities include: 

•Performing skilled mechanical duties, including diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance

•Ordering parts, maintaining inventory and working with local parts vendors 

•Operating various “tools of the trade” such as ODB II scan tool, electronic wheel balancer, tire changing machine, air tools, vehicle lifts, multimeter, brake lathe, charging system tester, emission computer 

•Performing state safety and emissions inspections on fleet vehicles

•Training staff on pre-usage equipment inspection and general operation

•Providing off-hours mechanic coverage during snow removal operations and special events

•Operating rollback truck to provide on-property recovery of vehicles 

The ideal candidate will have:

•A minimum of 3 years of experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance

•Degree from a technical school in automotive, diesel, or equipment technology

•Flexibility to work after hours as necessary for fleet upkeep required.

•Have the following valid licenses or must be obtained after hire within 60 days: CDL Class A driver’s license, a DOT medical card, a forklift operator’s license, and PA State safety and emission inspection licenses

•Familiarity with email, internet, and Microsoft Office products

•Strong decision-making, communication, analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
