Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Greenhouse Grower to join our team producing over 1000 unique florist crops, in 4.5 acres of greenhouses and container fields, used to create Longwood’s world-renown displays. This is a unique hands-on position requiring attention to detail. Specific responsibilities include:

•Supporting our Horticultural Specialty Chrysanthemum Grower with applying techniques developed in Japan and China to grow chrysanthemums in unique forms, not seen outside of Asia and a critical part of Longwood’s nationally and internationally renowned Chrysanthemum Festival

•Leading all aspects of IPM in assigned area

•Supporting all aspects of crop production including transplanting, potting, repotting, staking, tying, grooming, watering, fertilizing and pest management.

•Setting environmental control parameters

•Receiving and delivering plant material 

•Working with other areas of Greenhouse Production, enabling them to become well versed in all aspects of Longwood’s high standards for producing beautiful display plants. 

•Supervising and mentoring students, seasonal employees, and volunteers in proper greenhouse growing techniques.

Periodic weekend, holiday, and evening support is required.

We are looking for a team player with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience working in a greenhouse production setting. The ideal candidates will have:

•Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

•Demonstrated experience working proactively to meet deadlines

•Experience working as part of a team as well and independently

•A valid driver’s license

•Willingness to obtain a Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator’s license within six months of their hire date

•Willingness to obtain a forklift operator’s training certificate

•Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time as well as bend and carry up to 50 pounds

•Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
