Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nursing Supervisor Hospitalwide.
In this role, the successful candidate Performs leadership activities in accordance with the mission and vision of the organization. Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary management team to provide direction of activities and operation of assigned patient care units. Directs patient flow of the unit with respect to timeliness of placement, workload and acuity. Ensures adequate staffing is maintained, relocating employees as necessary. Assists in identifying and resolving daily unit operational and clinical problems that impact upon the quality of care delivered. Monitors compliance with unit-based performance improvement efforts.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Management Operation
Facilitates and oversees activities and operation of assigned patient care
units during assigned shifts.
Performs nursing rounds of assigned units to assess activity, identify
potential problems and formulate a plan that combines theoretical
knowledge, clinical expertise and leadership ability.
Works collaboratively with other clinical supervisors for the management of
patient flow by facilitating movement as it relates to patient admissions and
transfers throughout the organization i.e. floor, ICU, PAR, and ED
Works collaboratively with the management of assigned areas as well as
other disciplines in ensuring operation of the unit and positive patient care
outcome
Addresses patient care issues including patient/family complaints
Communicates effectively including appropriate administrative issues and
provides for staff feedback

2. Management of Personnel
  • Provides the leadership necessary for staff to achieve their goals and
succeed within the organization
  • Provides input for completion of the mid-year and annual performance
appraisal
  • Participates and supports the implementation of clinical, technical,
departmental and/or organizational change.
  • Addresses disciplinary action to situations requiring immediate attention and
collaborates with the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator regarding all other
issues
  • Reviews daily staffing and assignments to ensures an appropriate match of
patient acuity, workload and volume to staff competencies
  • Collaborates and communicates with the Nurse Manager regarding unit
activities, issues and concerns

3. Participates in Performance Improvement Activities
Participates and implements performance improvement efforts consistent
with the hospital-wide and department specific Performance Improvement
Program
Ensures that staff complies with governmental regulatory agencies and DNV
In collaboration with the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator, assigns
responsibility for monitoring of performance improvement activities
Collects and organizes data for evaluation
Actively participates in maintaining patient safety standards

4. Collegiality/Professionalism
Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of staff and
peers
Demonstrates the ability to confront peers with patient care issues as they
relate to the management of the unit
Accepts feedback from staff members and management for the purposes of
improving unit activities
Participates in and supports decisions made by management

5. Education
Fulfills the annual requirements regarding continuing education
Maintains knowledge base through participation in learning situations such
as departmental meetings, educational programs, professional association
participation, journal review or committee membership
Staff
In collaboration with the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator and Nurse
Educator, participates in the oversight of the orientation process for new unit
personnel
Assists in identifying special learning needs of unit staff and participates in
program development and implementation
Functions as a clinical resource for consultation and support by
demonstrating clinical expertise in clinical theory and application of skills
Works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator and
Nurse Educator to create an environment supportive of the delivery of
quality care

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Current New York State License as a Registered Professional Nurse; BLS and ACLS required.
Approximately two to three years on the job experience, including demonstration of progressive responsibility in unit-based nursing management and staff education
Practice reflects customer service excellence
Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions to complex clinical situations and/or area problems
Analytical ability necessary to interpret and enforce policies and procedures, provide direction and manage efficient staff levels
Leadership skills that demonstrate effective management of the area including successful interactions with staff, patients and visitors
Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal format.
Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS
