ABOUT THE POSITION
Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one Temporary Full-Time Long Term Substitute - Culinary Faculty commencing with the fall 2024 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves instructing baking courses ranging from Baking Skills and Principles, Pastry Skills and Principles, Cake Decorating, Baking & Pastry Skills for Culinary students. This assignment also includes curriculum development, participation in the shared governance process through work in normal professional activities, committee work, and student activities. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, OR
  • Any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
  • Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.
All candidates must demonstrate
Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Recent community college or lower division teaching experience in Baking & Pastry Arts.
  • Minimum five (5) years of full-time, hands-on experience in commercial/industrial kitchens (e.g. Luxury Hotel, Fine-Dining Restaurants, Bakeries).
  • Thorough functional knowledge of equipment, facilities, procedures, food safety and sanitation, and personnel practices in the culinary field.
  • Ability to work with computers and use the Internet and interactive technologies to engage students in on-campus and online courses, and intrinsic motivation and ability to develop and teach online courses (where academically appropriate).
