For more information on our College demographics please click here: https://www.lbcc.edu/pod/lbcc-college-facts.ABOUT THE POSITIONUnder the direction of the Associate Dean, Student Support Services, the director will provide the leadership for the Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSP&S) and will coordinate all aspects of the program. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Director, Disabled Students Programs and Services will plan, organize, control and direct Disabled Students Programs and Services operations and activities; coordinate and direct Disabled Students Programs and Services funds, budgets, personnel, information, training activities, systems and reporting functions to meet student needs and assure smooth and efficient activities; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. Monitor and analyze Disabled Students Programs and Services operations and activities for financial effectiveness and operational efficiency; provide technical direction and assistance in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs to enhance the financial effectiveness and operational efficiency of the Disabled Students Programs and Services Office. Direct and participate in providing technical assistance to students, College personnel and others concerning Disabled Students Programs and Services operations and programs; respond to inquiries, resolve student issues and conflicts and provide detailed and technical information concerning related funds, awards, applications, standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESCoordinate and evaluate the daily operations of the DSP&S program at LAC and PCC including service delivery, policy and procedural development, and publications.Monitor, prepare and administer program budgets.Provide leadership for the direction, planning and administration of the area's DSPS and Special Programs such as College to Career (C2C/aka THRIVE).Assure compliance with all federal and state disability laws, rules and regulations; including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990; the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2009; the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other federal and state laws pertaining to higher education and disability.Maintain awareness of local, state, and federal trends for use in forecasting services and instruction.Provide leadership and coordination of service delivery to our Deaf and Hard of Hearing student population.Work closely with the Dean of Counseling and Student Support Services and Compliance officer regarding student complaints and issues.Direct scheduling of all DSPS classes and monitor faculty loads.Recommend and staff special courses in consultation with academic departments.Maintain necessary and appropriate records and data related to program funding as required by the Chancellor's Office (MIS reporting) and other regulatory agencies.Serve as a program liaison and participate in outreach to schools, community groups and local agencies.Provide consultation to faculty and administration regarding access to facilities, technology, and instructional programs.Facilitate communication related to disabled students policies, procedures, programs and services.Coordinate professional development and services with other campus groups as they relate to students with disabilities.Act as first line responder to student and faculty issues and concerns regarding accommodations and services.Coordinate training and workshops for faculty and staff regarding students with disabilities.Regularly convene the DSPS Advisory Committee.Hire, train, supervise and evaluate all personnel associated with the program.Provide support to DSPS staff in the hiring, training and supervision of short-term temporary and student employees.Serve as the representative for the program/programs on campus committees and community meetings.Research and implement new technologies for the delivery of DSPS services.Perform other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPSThis position reports to the Dean of Counseling and Student Support Services and supervises and evaluates assigned staff. PERSONNELResponsible for supervising and evaluating the performance of assigned personnel; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; coordinate subordinate work assignments and review work for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards, requirements and procedures.
