Job Summary: 12 college units of Child development required. The Patient Care Assistant-Child Life provides age-specific (neonate, infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, young adult) and developmentally appropriate therapeutic patient activities, e.g., games, toys, in the activity room and at the bedside; creates and fosters a comfortable and safe therapeutic environment for hospitalized children in the activity room. Performs duties within scope of practice and follows policies, protocols, techniques, and guidelines. Meets qualifications and competencies as identified in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Minimum twelve (12) college units in child/human development required. Minimum one year experience in child development or education center required; hospital child life experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; teach and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary for patient interaction; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient needs; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.
