The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) in Therapy Services provides evaluation and treatment of expressive and receptive language abilities, cognitive skills, and oral motor functioning in a variety of settings. The SLP will provide treatment plans and outcomes using therapeutic modalities and procedures to maintain/increase skills. The SLP will work with Board Certified Behavior Analysts and ABA Therapists on achieving therapeutic goals. The SLP will also consult with other professional staff and families regarding results of evaluations, treatment, and progress, and make suggestions for Autism Learning Center, classroom, and/or home programming.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • The therapist will conduct evaluations to determine the need for therapeutic services.
  • The therapist will communicate the results of the assessment as directed.
  • The therapist shall determine each client's needs with the client's family and in direct consultation with other professionals working with the client, including LOGAN staff (including - but not limited to - the supervising Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, ABA Technicians) and any external service providers. This planning will include any interventions necessary - i.e., home programs, communication systems - necessary and desired by the family to enhance each client's unique outcomes.
  • The therapist will conduct treatment when appropriate to maintain or enhance speech, language, and related abilities within the scope of the therapist’s training and expertise.
  • The therapist will facilitate the growth of the client's parents as teachers by providing the resources and support necessary to adequately meet each goal.
  • If the client is a client of LOGAN Autism Services, the therapist will work directly and collaboratively with center staff (BCBAs, ABA Therapists) to develop, implement, and measure therapeutic goals.
  • The therapist should have the ability to deal effectively with other staff, agencies, and community programs, as well as clients and their parents/guardians.
  • Records and Reports:
  • The therapist shall keep daily progress notes, make reports on progress, and maintain accurate and up-to-date files including records of evaluations, home visits, etc.
  • The therapist will communicate respectfully and effectively with the finance department on issues related to billing for services.
  • Ability to use and learn Electronic Medical Records systems used for SOAP Note creation and billing
  • Participates in case conferences, staff meetings, parent group meetings when requested.
  • Serves as a resource person for Autism Learning Center Staff and parents for information on areas related to clinical expertise.
  • General Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the health, safety, and well-being of persons served at all times.
  • Provide incident reporting as needed within 24 hours of incident.
  • Expected to serve as role model for persons served.
  • Expected to serve as an advocate and to protect the human rights of persons served at all times.
  • Expected to participate in training as required by your supervisor or for all LOGAN staff.
  • The therapist will plan instructional activities/ home program for parents as well as activities for primary care givers in community settings.
  • The SLP will furnish all required progress reports on a timely basis.
  • The confidentiality and cultural diversity of the client and their family will be respected at all times, according to LOGAN policies.
  • The SLP may be asked to serve on a LOGAN committee that addresses the internal operations of the agency.
  • The therapist will conduct other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • The Speech-Language Pathologist will possess a master’s degree in Speech and Language and be licensed in the State of Indiana and/or the State of Michigan, based on location of clinical services/site.

Experience

  • The Speech-Language Pathologist should have experience and training in working with individuals on the autism spectrum and knowledge of Applied Behavioral Analysis.
  • Must have the ability to work with professionals in other fields (Applied Behavior Analysis, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, clinical services, etc.) is required.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Current Speech-Language Pathologist license in the state/ location of service.
  • The ability to communicate with other appropriate staff, supervisor, and agency personnel.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and families within this format.
  • The ability to provide developmental outcomes for each client and demonstrate activities and strategies to their families and/or caregivers.
  • The therapist will plan instructional activities/ home program for parents as well as activities for primary care givers in community settings.
  • The SLP will furnish all required reports on a timely basis.
  • The confidentiality and cultural diversity of the client and their family will be respected at all times, according to LOGAN policies.
  • The SLP may be asked to serve on a LOGAN committee that addresses the internal operations of the agency.
  • The therapist will conduct other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Ability to drive to different community sites where services are provided, if needed
  • Ability to sit & use computer keyboard
  • Ability to kneel, bend, & reach throughout a session
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds throughout a session
