Local Start Dental is a small business in Durham, NC. We are professional, fast-paced, collaborative and our goal is to Local Start Dental is a not-for-profit 501 c3, state-of-the-art and on-site denture fabrication clinic. We specialize in dental prosthetics—dentures and dental implants. Our dentists are specialists (Prosthodontists) that have years of advanced training in leading dental schools. We have the most advanced imaging system available for scanning the mouth, and all tooth replacement and extraction services are performed in our practice. State-of-the-art digital technology ensures excellent fit and function of every denture, and dentures are custom crafted on-site by a Certified Dental Technician.

Major Responsibilities:

The primary role of the General Dentist is to ensure the best possible dental care and experience for every patient. The General Dentist performs a variety of examinations and treatments for patients who need general dentistry in conjunction with their prosthodontic treatment. The General Dentist collaborates with the Prosthodontist on the patient’s treatment plans to ensure the best and most efficient care for patients. The General Dentist must work effectively with co-workers including the lab, clinical, and front office teams by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner.

1. Driving year-over-year self-sustainment through optimal clinical workflows and clinical excellence.

2. Will comply with local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations, and clinical best practices.

3. Responsible for personal departmental compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and clinical provision of dental care those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.

4. Assists with the training and development of the dental assisting staff in dental procedures according to protocols.

5. Attends and participates in staff development such as staff meetings, training, and daily team huddles.

6. Examine patients’ medical records.

7. Maintains an optimal level of patient care while executing treatment and exams in a fast and efficient manner.

8. Prepare patients for treatment (e.g., by administering local anesthesia)

9. Check teeth, gums and other parts of the mouth, along with X-rays and tests, to diagnose dental problems.

10. Clean teeth and remove plaque (when applicable).

11. Identify tooth decay and replace cavities with fillings.

12. Design and fit dental prosthetics, such as bridges, crowns and dentures (as needed to support the Prosthodontist).

13. Perform oral surgery procedures including extractions, socket preservation, and alveoloplasty.

14. Promote good oral health and preventative dental care (e.g., once a patient has completed their full treatment plan – refer them to a dentist for routine care).

15. Follow-up with patients to ensure each patient gets the treatment they need and has an optimal patient experience.

16. Consistently identifies and implements clinical best practices in collaboration with leadership (see the Local Start Change Management Policy).

17. Provide effective, direct, and in-the-moment feedback to staff and leadership to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.

18. Keep commitments and keep director supervisor(s) informed of work progress timetables and issues.

19. Maintains an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with company policies.

20. Addresses others professionally and respectfully.

21. Maintain a clean, sterile environment in accordance with the American Dental Association guidelines.

22. Participates in or leads daily morning huddles, monthly team meetings and any other meetings as required.

23. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required:

· CPR/AED Training

· Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree from a university-based dental education program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

· A valid North Carolina dental license issued by the Board of Dental Examiners or Licensing Board.

Preferred:

· Firm knowledge of Prosthodontic Dentistry.

· Ability to run a 2-3 column schedule with the support of the dental assisting team.

· Training/teaching experience – both didactic and hands-on.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Growth, development, and communication appropriate to the patient being treated.

· Best practices related to oral hygiene and healthcare.

· Experience diagnosing dental problems and documenting examinations and courses of treatment.

· Dentistry and dental procedures and the documentation needed to support this.

· Proficient in adhering to OSHA/HIPPA protocols as well as infection control best practices.

· Safety and practice standards governing the practice of dentistry.

· Ability to respond to common inquiries from patients, staff, vendors, or other members of the business community.

· Ability to draw valid conclusions, apply sound judgment in making decisions, and make decisions under pressure.

· Ability to interact with other Dentists and other team members in a respectful and professional way.

· Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedure manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and government regulations.

· Ability to communicate effectively and present information, both verbally and in writing, to patients and co-workers.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.

· Ability to maneuver through basic computer software.
