Summary: This position assists the design originator by coordinating the translation of a design concept into the CAD environment, working through routine design efforts, and applying engineering fundamentals.

General Responsibilities:

• Understanding technical design requirements and specifications required by various local agencies, including Harris County Flood Control District, Harris County, City of Houston, TxDot, among others
• CAD production for the design of channels, detention basins, roadways, grading, utilities, and more
• Prepare plan documents and schematic designs for local government projects using Autodesk Civil3D
• Generate design calculations and Quantity Take-Offs for engineer’s estimate
• Understanding of standard construction materials and choosing appropriate specifications
• Have general mathematical skills to manipulate standard design formulas
• Other assigned duties as required

Required Education/Licenses:

• Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting or equivalent experience

Required Experience:

• 2 years of drafting and engineering technician experience desirable
• Experience with Autodesk Civil3D required; Experienced with Microstation is a plus
• Effective communication skills both oral and written
• Effective interpersonal skills with coworkers and public agency officials
• Moderate contact with outside agencies and project team members
• Ability to build strong relationships
• Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or daily as changes occur in project needs
