Linda Hall LIbrary is Hiring a Gardener, Seasonal Near Kansas, MO

Description

Reporting to the Groundskeeping Manager, the Gardener assists in the planting, maintenance and care of plants, trees, flowers and landscaping at the Linda Hall Library Arboretum.

This is a seasonal part-time position that will start approximately from March to October, up to 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Maintains arboretum appearance by systematically monitoring and cleaning for weeds, tree branches and trash on the grounds, parking lots, tree rings, and landscape beds 
  • Maintenance, including but not limited to, watering, mulching, weeding and minor trimming 
  • Monitor the plants for any signs of pests or diseases and report to Groundskeeping Manager 
  • Operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment including but not limited to: garden hand tools, chainsaw, blower, sting trimmer and motorized utility carts.
  • Ensure that tree and landscape signs are upright, free of debris and visible
  • Assists in the planting of grass seed, shrubbery, trees, flowers and plants
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 18 years of age. 
  • One year experience in landscaping installation and maintenance, nursery, greenhouse production, or equivalent level of experience.

Desirable

  • Ability to identify weeds and pests

  • Reliability: Consistently meets commitments and deadlines, demonstrating dependability and trustworthiness by following through on tasks and promises.

  • Autonomy: Operates effectively without constant supervision. Comfortable working alone. 

WORK CONDITIONS

This is not a remote position. The work is primarily performed outdoors.
