Position: Teacher (Math) (9-12)

Location: West Lincoln High School

Terms of Contract: 10 months, full-time, benefit eligible

Reports To: Principal

Monthly Salary:  Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)

FLSA: EXEMPT

Qualifications/Requirements: Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina 9-12 math teaching license in appropriate licensure area.

Goal: To help each pupil develop competence in basic mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems; and to encourage pupils to develop their special talents in the field of mathematics.

Duties:

  • Teach courses in mathematics to secondary pupils using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
  • Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing discovery and laboratory learning methods
  • Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models, chalkboard, overhead projector, calculators, computers, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids
  • Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
  • Design learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
  • Evaluate each pupil’s progress in mathematical knowledge and skills
  • Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintain required inventory records
  • Communicate with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching mathematics and with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual pupil’s progress
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs
  • Share in the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematic teams, and participates in faculty committees
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
  • Other duties as assigned
