Lincoln County Schools - NC is Hiring a Teacher Science (9-12), (Highly Qualified), East Lincoln High School Near Lincolnton, NC

Position: Teacher (Science) (9-12), Comprehensive HG

Location: East Lincoln High School, Mulitiple Positions

Terms of Contract: 10 months, full-time, benefit eligible

Reports To: Principal

Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)

FLSA: EXEMPT

Qualifications/ Requirements: Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area. Preferred Math 9-12 Certification and Science 9-12 Certification. Position will require Science Praxis (#5435 and #5624). Must be able to teach all 9-12 Science Curriculums.

Goal: To develop in each pupil an awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress; to motivate each pupil to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles, and skills in scientific methods of problem solving; and to discover and develop special talents of pupils in scientific fields.

Duties:

  • Teach skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology, or science problems to secondary pupils, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
  • Plan a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organize laboratory activities for optimal learning
  • Demonstrate scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids
  • Provide individual or small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously
  • Instruct pupils in proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment, and plant and animal life
  • Provide for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools. Make minor adjustments and request repairs to equipment as required
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions, laboratory sessions, and field trips
  • Evaluate each pupil’s growth in knowledge and skills in course being taught
  • Select and request books, instructional aids, science equipment, chemicals, and supplies, and maintain inventory records as required
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
  • Identify pupils needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems
  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
  • Other duties as assigned
