Liliuokalani Trust is Hiring a Specialist, Early Childhood Near Honolulu, HI

Job Description Job Purpose The Early Childhood Specialist for Hoʻokahua Early Childhood pilot project is responsible for providing comprehensive, individualized coaching and family support services to families with young Native Hawaiian children. This position is responsible for support and coaching which focuses on the whole ‘ohana to help them achieve their goals in the areas of education, employment and family well-being that support the retention of housing and increase positive family outcomes. The Early Childhood Specialist will also work with the program team to develop, implement and evaluate innovative and impactful programing for our families. Essential Responsibilities Works to engage families in the program, working to maximize participant retention and minimize early exits as well as program safetyMaintains a case load of families enrolled in the 2-generation Early Childhood pilot programProvides a strengths based/trauma informed approach to conduct thorough assessments of families, utilizing the Pua Lili‘u assessment tools and other screens; co-develops written service plans, with quarterly updates at a minimum which includes steps for increased education and/or unsubsidized employment, enhance parent-child relationships, life skills and emotional supports to help maintain housing and/or prepare families to exit to stable housingPerforms written and electronic recordkeeping functions as required for LT’s internal database on a timely basisCollaborates with the LT Housing Navigator that focuses on eviction prevention and includes participation of move-ins and exitsWorks in tandem with LT teammates to integrate services across the agencyConducts 1:1 sessions with ‘ohana on a weekly basis (in-person kīpuka based, home visits, and virtually)Co-facilitates cohort meetings twice a month and plans other events or activities as assignedCo-facilitate programs to support and enhance parent-child relationships, social-emotional learning, and parent independence, and increase cultural knowledgeActively participates in weekly supervision, team meetings, and agency staff meetingsPerforms crisis prevention as neededRegularly participates in agency and program staff meetings, as well as professional group seminars or conferences to enhance professional knowledge and job skills. Other duties:Participates in program planning, budget development, revision, and evaluation. Provides transportation for organization related business, such as driving staff, beneficiaries and/or families to assigned destinations. Participates in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development. Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improves team and organization results. Performs other duties as assigned. QualificationsBachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, or related degree; or the equivalent life experience working with youth in need of educational, social and/or emotional support.2 years of professional experience working in the early childhood field with parents and young children, preferably direct service experienceAbility to work evening and weekends hoursValid driver license, clean traffic abstract, and access to a privately owned automobile with valid no-fault insurance.TB clearanceFirst Aid and CPR/AED Certification preferred. Job CompetenciesDemonstrates knowledge of direct practice, youth development, and quality assurance processes.Demonstrates ability to design training curriculum and ability to train, coach and consult on clinical and cultural practices.Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, strategic and problem-solving skills are essential.Demonstrated ability and success in collaborative efforts, ability to lead and work as member of a multidisciplinary team, understand organizational culture, systems and importance of community.Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in adapting to change and learning new systems and processes.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently where necessary and take initiative to accomplish tasks toward meeting of key deadlines.Proficiency with MS Office, technical proficiency with project management software is desirable.Ability to work flexible hours when necessary, including nights and weekends, to meet key development, design, and implementation deadlines.Ability to travel required to Kipuka for meetings, conferences and events. Organization CompetenciesAlignment with Queen’s legacy: Understanding and appreciation of Queen Liliuokalani’s story, her legacy and the Hawaiian Culture is foundational to staff’s commitment to working with our Hawaiian children, families and communities.
