Lighthouse Louisiana (The Lighthouse for the Blind in New Orleans, Inc.) is Hiring a Vocational Services Coordinator Near Orleans, LA

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Director of Employment Services (DES), the Vocational Services Coordinator (VSC) assists program participants through Employment Services (ES), ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. The VSC manages the collection and reporting of data and effectively supports Employment Services programs, as needed. The VSC monitors case files, manages invoicing, and streamlines the flow of participant progress through all provided services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Establish and maintain positive and professional partnerships, networks, and circles of support throughout the community that aid in the advancement of employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

2. Support participants in identifying their experiences, skills, accommodation needs, talents, and employment preferences through the completion of a Job Search Assistance Plan.

3. Lead Job Readiness and Job Search Assistance training program designed to educate and prepare participants for job placement services with an Employment Specialist.

4. Provide Pre-Employment support services to participants by assisting in creating resumes, cover letters, email accounts, mock interviews, referrals for benefits counseling, etc.

5. Manage daily departmental operations to include: greeting visitors, processing intakes, monitoring phone and email messages, establishing case files, completing data entry, uploading documents, tracking report schedules, processing purchase authorizations, and coordinating monthly invoices.

6. Receive, review, and enter all Purchase Authorizations from Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS) into the NetSuite accounting system by procedure. Streamline the process for submitting monthly invoices to ensure the accuracy of data and professional management of reports.

7. Gather monthly reports from ES staff, preparing for Director of Employment Services review before billing and submission including job development reports, job coaching logs, monthly progress reports, and other documents as required by Lighthouse Louisiana, LRS, and the Social Security Administration.

8. Work proactively with ES staff by providing program support and career track recommendations during case conferences, based on Work Readiness and Job Search Assistance services, to assist in employment goal achievement.

9. Maintain the ES Department Activity Calendar, ensuring that all activities are appropriately displayed for team reference.

10. Collaborate with the Director of Employment Services to develop Work Readiness and Job Search Assistance training programs that advance participant skill sets before transfer to an Employment Specialist for ongoing services.

11. Collaborate inter-departmentally, as needed, to ensure participants receive well-rounded support and services leading to the achievement of employment stability.

12. Conduct all activities in a positive, professional manner and maintain a strong team-building environment among staff members and participants.

13. Keep the Director of Employment Services informed of all matters relating to departmental activities and objectives and any issues in the vocational rehabilitation and workforce development industries that relate to or affect company operations.

14. Handle all departmental information as confidential with discretion and accountability.

15. Represent Lighthouse Louisiana with professionalism, embodying its values in all communications.

16. Adhere to all Lighthouse policies and standard operating procedures.

17. Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Employment Services.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

1. Education: A high school diploma with some college required. Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

2. Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of disability and factors that affect successful employment; Ability to effectively assess consumer strengths and weaknesses to determine a plan for overcoming challenges to employment stability; Effective teaching skills with the ability to assess skill sets and make recommendations; Strong troubleshooting skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Proficient in the use of MS Office tools. Ability to understand and stay current with new technology, community resources and assistive devices available for people with disabilities.

3. Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience in adult learning, workforce development, career training, or other employment-related field; willing to consider other experience if determined to be acceptable by organization leadership. Previous experience teaching adults ages 16 and over. Knowledge and ability to instruct competency-based instructional methods to individuals with disabilities.

4. Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

5. Physical: Ability to perform the duties as required. Have the physical ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, stooping, reaching overhead, and other physically intensive tasks. Ability to stand/sit for prolonged periods while demonstrating or modeling training techniques with adaptation as needed.

6. Personality: Self-motivated, enthusiastic, confident, dependable, well-organized, flexible, ability to motivate others, personable, well-spoken, patient, punctual, adaptive, creative, confident, and a positive thinker. Able to work both independently and as a team player. Capable of preserving confidential and sensitive information.

7. Work Conditions: Office setting, including offsite locations. Possess reliable transportation to travel independently to offsite locations for participant meetings, as needed. Must have a current driver’s license and state minimum vehicle insurance.

8. Work Schedule: 40 hours per week. May require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work to support unique consumer needs. Weekly work schedule may fluctuate.

9. Background Check and Drug Test Required: Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results.
