Summary: The Employment Specialist position is designed to provide support to LifeMoves Case Managers and clients in securing employment. The Employment Specialist (ES) primarily works 1:1 with clients in creating a case plan tailored to the client’s capabilities and financial needs. The ES achieves this by providing clients education on these topics, support with resume building, job leads, and connections with internal or external programs and partners. On an ongoing basis, Employment Specialists will proactively monitor new opportunities and update training to consistently offer the most relevant information to LifeMoves clients.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement, and revise individual employment plans and consistently monitor progress toward client goals 
  • Assist clients with resume building, cover letter assistance, professional development and navigating employment resources 
  • Act as liaison for LifeMoves and our community partners, employers, and job developers 
  • Communicate appropriatelyandas needed with clients, case managers and community partners 
  • Facilitate at least one employment workshop a month 
  • Attend weekly case consultation meetings and monthly trainings; meet regularly with supervisor to exchange pertinent information and receive supervision 
  • Maintain client and program records in accordance with applicable standards andpolicies 
  • Participate in continuing education activities, remaining knowledgeable in area(s) of expertise 
  • Stay current and knowledgeable about external community resources, referrals, and service linkages 
  • Other duties as assigned bysupervisor

  • The Employment Specialist is required to be flexible and create/implement employment plans with the client that is tailored to their needs.
  • The position requires the candidate to work independently, and collaboratively as a team with the ultimate goal of increasing employment opportunities for the agency and placing program participants in employment opportunities.
  • This position requires knowledge of San Mateo County and Santa Clara County job market and employment resources

Position Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, sociology or related field, with a minimum of one to two years’ vocational/case management experience
  • Background in developing vocational and employment skills
  • Understanding of the issues faced by homeless individuals and other marginalized populations in crisis
  • Experience working in a nonprofit highly desirable
  • Experience working with mentally ill and dually diagnosed clients highly desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to collaborate with community partners
  • An understanding of ideas and practices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion; and a commitment to ongoing professional development in this area.
  • Multicultural competency helpful
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking strongly preferred
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
