LGBT Network is Hiring a Program Coordinator (F/T) Near Hauppauge, NY

Position Summary

LGBT Network is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator to work out of the Hauppauge LGBT Community to provide social, support, and empowerment programs for LGBT youth. This position is responsible for three main functions: (1) Conducting youth outreach and engagement; (2) Coordinating in-center youth programs and services; and (3) Delivering school-based and community-based programs. This position reports to the Director of Programs, Long Island Region.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Conducting youth outreach and engagement

  • Increase youth participation in all in-person and virtual programs.
  • Conduct community and school-based outreach activities to identify and engage program participants, including identifying new opportunities to connect and engage LGBT youth into programs.
  • Expand our digital outreach efforts through the development of creative and attractive engagement strategies and the identification of new online platforms as they evolve.

Coordinating in-center youth programs and services

  • Facilitate and grow the organization’s weekly Friday night social program for LGBT youth.
  • Assist with large-scale events and programs, such as annual LGBT Youth Prom, Youth Talent Show, Youth Drag Race and/or Dance Performances, LGBT Youth Conference, and Queer Summer Camp.
  • Coordinate and grow the Youth Leadership Volunteer Program, which offers individual leadership and professional development experience to different cohorts of youth and young adults.

Delivering school-based and community-based programs and services

  • Schedule and deliver anti-bullying education programs in schools and organizations.
  • Deliver education and leadership programs to GSA club student members.
  • Coordinate LGBT Network’s Long Island GSA Council, engaging GSA advisors and club leaders to develop anti-bullying and ‘safe schools’ projects and initiatives.
  • Promote and support school-based “days of action” such as LGBT Network’s Annual National Coming Out Day (NCOD) campaign.

Additional responsibilities

  • Collect and track program participant utilization and demographic data, including data management, compilation of program reports, and assistance with grant reports.
  • Field and respond to telephone, e-mail, digital, and other requests for referrals and support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, social work, or another related field required.
  • At least 2-3 years of professional experience, with a preference for experience in a non-profit setting; school-based outreach and education programs; and/or working with LGBT youth (Work experience will be considered in lieu of education)
  • Strong knowledge of Positive Youth Development (PYD) and/or effective youth leadership skills; experience working with youth, especially LGBT youth, preferred.
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and networking skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including event planning, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Passion and motivation to be a part of the LGBT Network movement to help LGBT people to be themselves, stay healthy, and change the world.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • People who represent the community being served are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Flexible work schedule is a must, as this position requires working after-school and evenings and some weekends for in-person events, services, and outreach activities.
  • Reliable public transportation and a valid driver license, as this position requires travel throughout Long Island
  • Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
