Lewis Price and Associates INC is Hiring a Controller Near Charlottesville, VA

Description

 The Controller position reports directly to CFO, and works closely with other key staff, including the executive team, all department heads, and the project management team. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting Leadership

  • Maintains internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains rigorous monthly closing schedule management
  • Consistently analyzes financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitors progress and changes and keeps senior leadership abreast of the financial status of the companies.
  • Assists leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Coordinates all audit activity.
  • Oversees and completes all Tax Planning, Year End Financials, and Tax Returns
  • Manages cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with others; continuously collaborates with leadership to assess the financial efficacy of operations and establishes systems to support operations.
  • Manages and track the performance of assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
  • Reports to ownership, when necessary, in writing and verbally
  • Assists with creation, refinement, and implementation of accounting policies & procedures. (Primarily responsible for documenting workflow, procedures and policies related to accounting)
  • Researches technical accounting literature and write technical accounting memos.

Team Leadership

  • Leverages strengths of the current accounting team members, helps to clarify roles and responsibilities, and develops and implementing programs to maximize and reaches optimal individual and organizational goals
  • Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment
  • Establishes and promotes core values of the department as well as company-wide values
  • Sets strategic direction and vision for the department that aligns with company-wide objectives
  • Sets department goals and measuring of performance against goals
  • Manages the department’s interaction with the broader organization by representing the department in executive decision making, negotiates interdepartmental challenges, and communicates regularly back to team members relevant information regarding the company-at large and other departments.
  • Oversees and manages expenses and human resources decisions for the department
  • Organizes workflows, establishing SOPs, and assigning accountability
  • Manages ALL department team members by ensuring well-being, defines individual success, linking individual success to department and company success, securing necessary resources to allow individual success, and encourages professional growth and well-being
  • Continuously improves the department’s capability
  • Responsible for difficult, high-risk, or complex decisions required of the department, elevating when necessary

Technology Leadership

  • Manages accounting and reporting software integration and coordinate ongoing utilization and continuous learning with the IT department
  • Solves problems with an analytic approach to data interpretation rather than simply a reporting mindset.
  • Translates complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels of the organization including finance and non-finance managers.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree required: Bachelor's Degree Accounting, finance or a related field is required
  • Master’s in Business is helpful
  • A minimum of eight or more years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in solar energy industry preferred but not required
  • CPA certification required; Big 4 experience is helpful
