Are you a caregiver looking for a low stress, light-duty environment where you can work independently? Wesbury at Home is seeking companion / caregivers to staff their Care Cottages Located in Meadville(5) , Cochranton (1) and Titusville (1).

This is a great opportunity to enjoy consistent hours and work environment with a 3 residents to one companion / caregiver ratio and work independently. Flexible scheduling allows for more time off to recharge than similar care positions.

Care Cottages are well maintained Wesbury owned three-bedroom ranch style homes that offer residency to a maximum of three seniors receiving 24 hour supervision and services as needed. As an alternative to a personal care or assisted living environment, support is provided by a Care Cottage Companion / Caregiver who meets the residents day-to-day needs under the guidelines outlined in the Pennsylvania Department of Health Home Care Agency License.

As a Wesbury at Home Care Cottage Companion / Caregiver, you will build close, trusting relationships with the residents under your supervision.

Job Summary:

Wesbury at Home Care Cottage companions /caregivers provide support to seniors by assisting with (ADL's) Activities of Daily Living, (IADL's) Instrumental Activities of Daily Living which may include reading or playing games, cooking, household chores, taking them to appointments or helping them with hygiene or getting dressed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide care defined as ADL's which refer to daily self-care activities that include but are not limited to; bathing, showering, dressing, grooming, oral care, toileting, incontinence product management, transferring, walking, climbing stairs, assistance with eating.
  • Provide care defined as IADL's which are functions that let an individual live independently, which include but are not limited to; running errands, assisting with self-administered medications, using the phone or other forms of communication.
  • Accompany ambulatory clients outside the Cottage, serving as companion or caregiver to appointments, social events or religious activities.
  • Provide companion activities such as reading aloud, playing cards or games, surfing the internet or reminiscence and conversation.
  • Care for the Cottage by Purchasing groceries, preparing meals , managing the housework, laundry, and linen changes.
  • Companions and in home Caregivers may be required to work rotating and split shifts as needed.
  • Maintains records of services performed and of apparent condition of client.
  • Maintain communication with Wesbury at Home Coordinator regarding scheduling changes, requests for time off, resident requests, conditions changes and/or concerns.
  • Provides excellent customer service to residents, family and friends and represent Wesbury in a professional manner at all times.

Qualifications Necessary to Perform Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
  • High School graduate preferred but not required.
  • Previous in home care or nursing facility experience preferred but not required.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid (Wesbury will provide).
  • Working knowledge of computers, internet usage and word processing software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision including: good customer service, work well with others, problem solving, good time management skills and professionalism.
  • Read and follow schedules, instructions, recipes and labels.
  • Perform the physical requirements of the position which include standing, walking, driving, bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. 
  • Protect resident confidentiality by not sharing information.
  • Adhere to all Wesbury personnel policies as they apply to the workplace.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration mandates that all health Care facilities have a written Exposure control Plan on blood Borne Pathogens and Other Potential Infectious Materials in place and available for all persons to review as needed. As a part of this plan a copy of the Task Evaluation and Classification Form must be made a part of each job description. The next page of this job description is a copy of that form. It indicates the tasks likely to be performed during this job, the type of body fluid/substances to which exposure is likely, volume, probability of exposure, route of exposure and protective barriers which are to be employed. All persons hired will be fully trained on the Blood Borne Pathogens and Other Potential Infectious materials Exposure Control Plan on the day of hire or prior to initial assignment. Along with this training all persons will be provided with a copy of the Task Evaluation and Classification Form related to job description.
