ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Primary Duties

  • Responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, debugging, and documentation.
  • Maintain all hardware and software related to plant automation systems. To include but not limited to PLC, SCADA, HMI, servers, computer hardware, network, communication cards, power supply, etc.
  • Schedule and/or perform preventive maintenance on all related hardware (program backup, inspection, cleaning, etc).
  • Responsible for the replacement, configuration, specification, and upgrade of all equipment of the system as needed.
  • Responsible for tunings and adjustments of program parameters under the supervision of the Controls Engineering Supervisor.
  • Work with maintenance, engineering, and production groups regarding the study, design, planning, and implementation of new programs or programs modifications as needed.
  • Responsible for the commissioning of new systems or program modifications.
  • Perform troubleshooting and upgrades on plant automation equipment.
  • Communication with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Corporate IT group, and Lesaffre Engineering group on all matters regarding plant automation.

Secondary Duties

  • Work with the maintenance department and production/packaging departments to troubleshoot and resolve problems related to plant automation systems.
  • Assist the corporate IT group with plant IT issues as needed.
  • Support capital projects managed by other members of the engineering team

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. Typical hours are from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
  • In certain circumstances (shutdown, start-up, emergency, etc) an individual will be required to work late hours or during the weekend.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role has no direct supervisory duties. This role will be responsible for managing contractors and other onsite and remote support staff through projects and daily improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Programming, debugging, and troubleshooting skills in multiple languages as needed, primary languages include, but are not limited to, Siemens S7 STL, Siemens S7 Ladder, C, VBScript, VBA, SQL.
  • High aptitude for problem solving, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to learn new concepts or technologies.
  • Basic electrical skills and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows system administration and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of various networking protocols, concepts, and equipment.
  • Ability to handle critical decision-making responsibilities and deal with mental stress from occasionally extended worked hours outside of regular schedule.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan and manage time and resources effectively
  • Working knowledge of fluid process manufacturing concepts
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

College degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering required, or a minimum of 5 years experience in similar position, or a demonstrated proficiency in key aptitude areas.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures and manuals. Ability to write routine reports, documentation, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees. Ability to communicate technical information effectively.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and floating point. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to interpret complex logic.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Ability to be CPR/First Aid certified required.

Ability to be forklift certified required.
