POSITION SUMMARY
The Laser Operator Trainer’s primary responsibility is to provide hands-on training and ensure clinical competency on the LENSAR Laser System (LLS) and/or the ALLY laser system, with the goal of certifying system operators in accordance with regulatory approvals. The Laser Operator Trainer will be field based and will require frequent travel to provide this education. Training may be provided virtually, at the location of the system, or in house as needed. The position requires that sites are provided with ongoing support and monitoring.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Train and educate clinicians, technicians, and internal customers (Sales, Field Service and Distributors, etc.) on the proper technique and use of the LENSAR LLS and/or ALLY.
  • Conduct product investigation / evaluations under the mentorship of the Senior Clinical Applications Specialists or Director of Clinical Applications.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and understanding of LENSAR LLS and ALLY technology in assigned sites to improve procedure volume usage.
  • Responsible for understanding and satisfying the requirements for obtaining access to a client site (credentialing systems).
  • Responsible for assisting in collection of pre, intra-operative and post-operative data under the direction of the Director of Medical Education or the VP of Clinical.
  • Provide regular communication in person, via phone or remote technology to field counterparts (Sales, Business Development and Field Service) as well as the Clinical Applications Management team.
  • Participation at LENSAR events, tradeshows, and wet labs both on and off site when required.
  • Responsible for topographer trainings when applicable and ongoing support to ensure proficiency and use of device as well as assist in troubleshooting if needed.
  • Responsible for accurately completing documentation and laser operator trainings and certifications.
  • Responsible for assisting in collection of pre and post-operative data as well as discussions of outcomes with customers. Customers include, but are not limited to, physicians, clinical support staff, ASC and hospital staff, physician’s office staff, and others as directed by management.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / EDUCATION

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in delivering training to medical and support staff.
  • Excellent communication, negotiating, organizational and customer relations skills.
  • Strong computer and time management skills.
  • The ability to travel through the U.S. is required at a minimum of 70% and outside the U.S. up to 25%.
  • Understanding of human eye anatomy, corneal topography and keratometry including optics and refraction.
Preferred:
  • COA, COT, or CCOA certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences and/or experience in paramedical or working with the anterior segment of the eye.

  • Three years of clinical applications experience or work experience with cataract surgery in an operating theatre.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Laser Operator Trainer’s job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with management and internal/external customers. The employee must be able to stand on average between four to five hours at a time during surgery training. There may be opportunities for brief sit-down breaks. The employee must lift, move, and control physical inventory, office supplies, or travel equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of the Laser Operator Trainer, the employee will work out of their home office. They will be required to travel frequently in order to meet with doctors and administrators in both an office and operating room environment. Overnight stays are the rule and not the exception. Travel and essential job duties may involve extended hours and occasional weekends. The employee works near and around moving mechanical parts and is exposed to laser radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
