Legacy College Prep, a new charter high school located in the South Bronx, invites energetic professionals to apply to the position of Assistant Principal. The school is founded on the belief that all students, regardless of their previous education or zip code they were born into, can learn and achieve at high levels when held to the highest expectations. The school opened in the fall of 2017 with four classes of 6th graders. We are looking for high capacity, energetic, detail oriented, and fun-loving individuals to join our Founding Team.

Assistant Principal Job Description

The Assistant Principal position is a full-time position accountable for working directly with the Principal to run the school. The Assistant Principal role is a one year role that will transition to a Principal role the following year. This role will involve coaching teachers, managing the school Culture team, and supporting with daily school Operations. Working with the Dean of Culture to create systems and routines that promote a positive culture including but not limited to developing programming for community circles and town halls, and creating a curriculum for our behavior management course. This person will work to ensure that our students are supported through character development and high expectations that will bring our school closer to accomplishing our mission of student achievement.

Assistant Principal Job Responsibilities

• Manage and coach the Dean of Culture who oversees all school culture within the school.
• Coach and manage a team of teachers, observing them weekly and holding weekly check-ins to support their development.
• Work with Operations to ensure smooth systems and procedures on a daily basis.
• Collaborate with the Principal and other coaches on school wide professional development training.
• Supervise arrival, dismissal, lunch, and break/transition periods promoting and ensuring a positive school culture.
• Support teachers in building meaningful relationships with parents and students.

Assistant Principal Job Qualifications

• Unwaveringly high expectations for all students with the belief that every child should have access to a college education.
• Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree is preffered.
• A minimum of five years experience teaching at a school or child/youth program in an urban environment.
• A minimum of three years experience coaching/managing a group of teachers in a school or child/youth program in an urban environment.
• Track record of high student achievement
• High levels of professionalism, especially around time and attendance
• Demonstrated success at working effectively with students with behavioral challenges.
