Lee County Government is Hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator, Senior Near Fort Myers, FL
Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity. We are seeking a motivated, high energy, self-starter to serve in the role of heavy equipment operator. This position performs skilled work in operating heavy equipment, which will include a grade all excavator, as well as various motor graders, bulldozers, mini excavators, lowboys, front-end loaders, trucks with trailers, pick-up trucks, and other related equipment. The ideal candidate for this position will be reliable, safety oriented, thoughtful about planning and quality control, productive and hardworking.
Primary functions of this position include operating hand and power tools, performing routine maintenance and inspections of related equipment, and maintaining road right-of-ways.
Installing and repairing drainage pipes, catch basin forming, pouring and finishing concrete.
Placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing concrete.
Ability to level screed, bull/hand float and rebar tying.
Setting concrete forms for curb, driveways, and sidewalks.
Help with final grade adjustments.
May work with a crew or independently.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and three years of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with airbrake and acceptable driving record is required.
This is a safety-sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382.
Work days and hours are Tuesday - Friday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ability to work flexible hours under emergency situations.
Must be able stand, sit, crawl, or kneel for long periods of time and work outdoors in all types of weather.
Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
Must be able to form, measure, calculate, pour, and trowel concrete.
Knowledge and ability to build catch basins and shoot grades with a laser and lay pipe.
Must possess knowledge of traffic regulations and construction equipment safety, and have the ability to set up a safe work zone and learn specialized maintenance skills.
Must possess good communication skills, perform routine tasks by following oral instructions, and complete various forms and paperwork.
Must be able to read, write, and hear within a normal range.
Must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner.
Must be able to work flexible hours under emergency situations.
