Job Title: Executive Director
Supervisor Title: Leavenworth Main Street Board of Directors
Hours: Full Time, Salaried

Position Summary

The Executive Director acts as the eyes, ears and communication portion of the organization, promoting the many positive initiatives and opportunities for local small businesses. Consistent revitalization efforts utilizing the Main Street 4 Point Approach is necessary.

Principal Responsibilities

Maintain a professional office:

  • Maintain Business hours Monday – Friday in a friendly welcoming office environment.
  • Oversight of AP/AR/general office duties, Knowledge of and understanding of financials, management of the Loft

Rental

Investor Relations:

  • Consistently maintain and grow friends, business & financial investors. Build close, personal working relationships with current investors and potential investors.
  • Maintain and recruit new sponsorships for events and activities. Provide Budget ProForma for upcoming year in conjunction with the BOD, request for funding letter to City Manager. Attend City budget workshop.

Report & Documents:

  • Write IWW application & maintain.
  • Maintain quarterly economic files
  • Write and submit CVB grant applications, research and apply for additional opportunities for available funding on behalf of LMS and/or small businesses.
  • Attend Board & Committee Meetings. Work to maintain 4 working committees with a chairperson and an active

Board of Directors

  • Proficient in “office suite” computer programs, social media. Excellent communication, public relations, marketing skills.

Oversight:

  • The Executive Director is responsible for oversight of committees, Board of Directors activities and policies,

Assistant Director program of work including the Promotion Committee.

Committees:

  • Director oversees the committees and attends meetings. A Chairperson is key to committee success. The office supports the committee’s projects by developing posters, flyers, counter cards, etc.

Advertising:

  • Create advertising content, editorials, press releases and all related.
  • Review opportunities via TV, Billboards, Radio
  • Marketing Video’s – Maintain current ones on our website/F page (Assistant), initiate new video’s/create partnerships (CVB and others)
  • The Executive Director is a Salesperson for LMS, recruiting partners and sponsors for LMS events. Submit advertising for electronic boards.

  • Maintain Stubby Park Electronic Advertising, submit events on the various community electronic message boards

Liaison:

  • Director is a liaison to many – City of Leavenworth, CVB, Chamber, LCDC, preservation commission, planning/zoning, KSHS, KMS, Nat’l MS, and all related. Projects a positive image of LMS, provides reports and other documents as requested.
  • Director provides an annual report to the City Commission

Kansas/National Main Street

  • Director works closely with KMS staff regarding opportunities, trainings, quarterly reports, Maestro

Events:

  • Director and Assistant make sure all documents, requests for use of Haymarket or public parking lots, temporary liquor licenses, flyers and counter cards are developed/provided to merchants, free and paid advertising is in place, volunteers are recruited in designated time slots. A lot goes into initiating, developing, implementing, and hosting each event as a quality event. We depend on committee chairs to do a majority of the planning, recruiting volunteers and hosting events, however the office makes sure all the working pieces are in order.

Special Projects:

  • VIP Veterans Day Reception, General Sponsors and Food Providers
  • Annual Banquet
  • Board of Directors Fundraisers
  • As initiated

Experience

The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communication and time-management skills, proficiency with computers, specialty programs, social media, and a pleasant manner in dealing with the public. Higher education or significant experience in business, marketing, economics, history, design, or related fields is necessary. A flexible attitude toward the scheduling and content of work is a must. Insurance stipend. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Physical Demands
Performs sedentary work, sitting at desk for prolonged periods. Lifts 20 pounds maximum and occasionally handles office equipment and materials. Required stooping and bending. Event preparation and management may require lifting, standing for long periods and walking for long distances. Good physical health is required.
