ESL Program Specialist

Summary: We are looking for someone whose passion is helping others succeed. The ESL Program Specialist is a full-time position responsible for overseeing LearningQuest’s ESL Library Literacy program. The program will consist of paid Instructors and volunteer tutors for adult English language learners, serving those individuals recently immigrating from another country. The ESL Program Specialist will facilitate one-on-one sessions, group conversation sessions, and structured ESL classes in addition to program supervision.

Job Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of the ESL/Family Literacy the ESL Program Specialist will:

• Oversee ESL Library Literacy program and oversee the staff and volunteer tutors within program sites
• Recruitment of all volunteer tutors
• Manage call-ins to ensure proper coverage is available
• Collaborate with Adult Literacy department for the management of volunteer tutors
• Conduct regular site visits to ensure program goals are being met by tutors and instructors
• Provide feedback for Instructors and assist with performance reviews
• Make sure necessary books, materials and supplies are available and accessible to staff
• Oversee the completion and distribution of student documents and required assessments
• CASAS forms (entry, updates, and test)
• Administering CASAS tests
• Intake packets
• Student Surveys
• Roles and Goals
• Distribution of flyers and any additional handouts
• Recruitment and enrollment of students
• Teach and facilitate tutoring sessions, conversation groups, and ESL classes
• Complete program data entry and updates
• Answer phone calls and schedule/confirm appointments
• Create student and tutor files
• Assist the Director with mid-year and annual reports
• Input weekly program data into master spreadsheets
• Assist the Director in staff trainings, workshops and meetings
• Other tasks as assigned by the Program Director

Qualifications:

• Must be over the age of 18
• High School Diploma/GED required
• Bilingual in Farsi, Dari, Spanish, Russian, or another language is required.
• Must be open to a flexible schedule to accommodate for evening programs and willing to travel throughout Stanislaus County
• Minimum two years’ teaching experience
• College training and other training in Adult Education, Family Literacy, TESOL, K-12 or an Education related field is highly encouraged
• Proficient in Microsoft 365
• Professional communication skills
• Ability to coordinate with diverse cultures and varying levels of English language skills
• Skilled at establishing public relations and building up volunteer networks
• Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

This is a full-time position (36 hrs./week, Mon-Thu). The pay rate is $21 /hr. plus benefits.
