Job Title: Middle School Outdoor Education Teacher

Location: Learning Gate Community School, Lutz Lake Fern Campus

Job Type: Full-Time

Description: We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Middle School Outdoor Education Teacher to join our middle school team at Learning Gate. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive yearlong outdoor education curriculum that aligns with the Florida Department of Education standards and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This position offers the unique opportunity to teach in a nature campus setting with access to water bodies and a garden.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that incorporate environmental science, physical fitness, and hands-on outdoor skills.
• Facilitate water-based activities using inflatable canoes, life vests, and oars, ensuring student safety and alignment with educational standards.
• Lead forest ecology studies, fostering students’ appreciation for nature and understanding of environmental science.
• Manage and maintain a school garden, teaching students about plant biology, sustainable agriculture, and healthy eating.
• Conduct field research and guide students in data collection and analysis, promoting scientific inquiry and critical thinking.
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate outdoor education across the curriculum and enhance interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
• Assess student progress using a variety of methods and provide feedback to support student growth and achievement.
• Organize and supervise field trips, outdoor expeditions, and conservation projects, connecting classroom learning with real-world applications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Florida teaching certification with an endorsement in Science and/or Physical Education.
• Proven experience in outdoor education, environmental science, or a similar role.
• Strong commitment to experiential learning and student-centered teaching approaches.
• Ability to design and execute a curriculum that meets state standards and benchmarks.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard certification, or willingness to obtain.
