LEAD Public Schools is Hiring an Assistant Principal of Instruction (High School) Near Nashville, TN

 

JOB TITLE: Assistant Principal of Instruction (API)

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB OVERVIEW: The Assistant Principal of Instruction at LEAD Public Schools will drive outstanding academic results by managing instructional coaches who in turn work with teachers to strengthen instruction and ensure that they are highly effective. This includes providing leadership on all aspects of curriculum, assessment, instruction, and teacher development. 

Major Performance Responsibilities and Duties: 

Instructional Leadership:

  • Manage the school’s instructional coaches who in turn work with teachers in their content areas to ensure high-quality teaching is happening in every classroom
  • Lead the school’s academic team to ensure that curricular and instructional initiatives are student-focused and aligned with the school’s vision, goals, and improvement plans. 
  • Build knowledge and expertise in effective instructional design and academic standards for all school staff (including self).
  • Develop teachers’ conceptual understanding of what students must know and be able to do and what instructional methods drive student mastery.
  • Develop knowledge of how standards map to curriculum and assessment.
  • Ensure that all teachers are following the LPS Frameworks for Instruction.
  • Ensure that assessments such as NIAs and MAP are given on time and data from them is used to drive instructional decisions.
  • Ensure that the Social/Emotional components of the LPS model are executed with fidelity.

Coach and Teacher Development

  • Develop coaches who work with teachers in designing and implementing high-quality instruction.
  • Working with instructional coaches, develop teachers who provide rigorous and high-quality instruction.
  • Lead analysis of and develop teachers’ ability to analyze student data to identify strategies that will move students toward mastery.
  • Regularly conduct classroom observations and coach teachers on instructional practices.
  • Regularly observe and coach Instructional Coaches to ensure they are providing high-impact, actionable, and bite-sized feedback to teachers on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Ensure teachers can collaborate, study curricular material, analyze their practice and student data, and adjust instruction in effective content teams.
  • Plan and deliver whole-school professional development workshops that drive highest-impact improvements in teacher practice.
  • Implement and monitor a rigorous evaluation system using the TEAM model. Use teacher data to inform, assess, and adjust professional learning goals and plans. When necessary, collaborate with the school’s academic team to develop growth plans for teachers who do not meet performance standards. 

Data Analysis

  • Work with coaches to help lead data-driven instruction; lead academic team to determine how data aligns to end-of-year goals (what is being assessed and how it maps to standards).
  • Break-out data to analyze how different student groups are performing.
  • Determine what data is saying about areas of student mastery and growth.
  • Identify specific instructional actions and adjustments to fill students’ knowledge and skill gaps and a timeline to do so.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous instructional leadership experience as assistant principal, dean, or team leader
  • Previous experience as an instructional coach
  • Experience supervising and evaluating staff and serving as a leader of teams and individuals
  • At least four years of exemplary teaching required; the ideal candidate will have closer to 8-10 years of instructional experience

  • Instructional leadership: Adept at data analysis and extracting insights; holds expertise in school and statewide academic standards and assessments; possesses ability to translate student mastery requirements into instructional plans and strategies; understands application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies to ensure student mastery of content
  • Achievement orientation: Demonstrated resilience and focus on student outcomes
  • Performance management: Demonstrated student achievement results from teachers a leaders that he/she manages and coaches
  • People management and motivational skills: Ability to manage and motivate others within his/her direct reporting line as well as across a school building; strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfort with giving and receiving feedback
  • Builds Trust: Builds trust with all members of the school team by listening to everyone and delegating responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner
  • Cultural competence: Demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives among students and adults
  • Self-Awareness: Is open to feedback and is reflective of themselves and team
  • Problem solver: Solutions-oriented and thinks creatively about how to solve problems in a complex, fast-moving environment
  • Accountability: Holds all members of the school team accountable to student outcomes; engages in difficult conversations in effective and timely manner

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution. Master’s degree preferred, but experience leading a school and managing teams successfully is paramount.
