Overview:

The Structural Engineer is responsible for the development of structural design parameters and independently performs engineering analyses, calculations, and code interpretations as it pertains to the design of the equipment and project.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the Structural Design functions, activities, and schedules for each job
  • Perform reviews of technical drawings and project specifications to ensure structural integrity in various adverse conditions
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Engineering/Design department, using structural engineering software to layout supports and details for industrial equipment
  • Assist mechanical design department with sizing of equipment stiffeners
  • Work closely with the structural designer to produce structural steel drawings that include (but not limited to): steel layouts, connection details, industrial walkways, stairs and ladders, large equipment supports, large industrial duct supports, various framing and column support connections, and foundation drawings
  • Work with outside structural engineering resources to coordinate designs on large projects
  • Work closely with Project Managers and the engineering team to execute clients needs and expectations, in a timely manner while staying within the budget
  • Help create and maintain structural standards as we move forward in the growth of our new structural department
  • Respond to questions arising in the field which may include site visits
  • Other duties as required by the Engineering Manager


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Extreme attention to detail, process orientation, and relentless focus on accuracy with a sense of urgency towards project objectives
  • Strong work ethic and ability to establish priorities among drawing deliverables
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to work independently or with engineering and design teams of other disciplines
  • Ability to react promptly, efficiently shift priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written as well as presentation skills
  • Advanced technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to take and give direction well and communicate effectively to accomplish tasks

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in the State of Georgia strongly preferred or must be willing and able to obtain one
  • 5 years experience working in the structural design field
  • Advanced expertise with Autodesk Inventor and/or AutoCAD, using 2D and 3D is a plus
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
  • Experience with GTSTRUDL or STAADPro a plus
  • Specific experience in drafting/design layout for large industrial equipment and processes is a plus
