Job Profile

The Communication Specialist I position is responsible for assisting in creating proposal documents to support LDC, Inc. This includes technical writing, graphic design, assisting with document layout, and preparing proposals. The Communication Specialist I consults with engineering, planning, survey, telecom/EV, and technical staff assisting with creation of proposals, request for qualifications (RFQ’s), request for proposals (RFP’s), and statement of qualifications (SOQ’s). The Communication Specialist I will assist in writing and proofreading documents, creating and modifying templates, creating internal/external marketing materials, and revising corporate designs, logos, layouts, and branding.

Reports to: Senior Vice President with direct supervision from Technical Writer II

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing technical materials, reports, and memorandums.
  • Prepare written proposals and scopes of work.
  • Produce visual content such as illustrations, icons, infographics, and other graphic elements that align with LDC, Inc.’s guidelines and objectives.
  • Editing and retouching images, including color correction, cropping, resizing, and enhancing photographs for use in various design materials.
  • Assists with preparation of engineering technical specifications.
  • Work with input from engineering, planning, survey, and telecom/EV departments to mine information and create printed and electronic technical documentation.
  • Manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously.
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other contributors.
  • Assist with preparation of meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Assist with website content.
  • Ensures all materials are aligned with company’s brand identity.

Skills and Specifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and other relevant tools used for design and editing purposes.
  • Capable of creating visually compelling presentations.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative design concepts, graphics, and layouts.
  • Experience publishing content to websites.
  • Excellent research and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to identify design problems and propose creative solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast environment within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; communicate and collaborate with others to meet project requirements.
  • Able to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Education, Experience, Qualifications

  • Associate degree in English, Engineering, Journalism, Marketing, Communication, or related field preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience in a visual or graphics communication role.
  • 2 years technical writing experience in an engineering environment or combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.

Physical Considerations

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, and calculator.
  • Ability to perform repetitive, finer hand and arm movements.
  • Work activities involve combination of sitting for longer periods and intermittent standing/walking.
