Laws Whiskey House is Hiring a General Manager Near Denver, CO

General Manager – Tasting Room

 Job Description

The General Manager executes the brand image and standards of Laws Whiskey House and performs complex managerial oversight to all customer facing functions within Laws Whiskey House Tasting Room operations. This position manages the front of house and back of house operations, including the Tasting Room financials, service levels, etc. The GM recruits, hires, and trains Tasting Room staff, conducts meetings, ensures that broad matters are dealt with and executed, and will maintain a strategic operating plan and communicate such plans to the team. This position will report to the CFO.

 Role and Responsibilities

  • Team Development/Management
    • Ensures proper performance management of co-workers.
    • Accountable to be present and available during Tasting Room hours, including nights and weekends and special events.
    • Creates and supports a cohesive team through thoughtful selection and hiring processes, consistent coaching, and training, and engaging in effective communication.
    • Supervise and monitor management and staff scheduling.
    • Work with Head Distiller and Tasting Room Manager & Internal Events Coordinator to educate coworkers on distilling knowledge and styles, presentation, hospitality, company history, and merchandise display.
    • Perform team training on Laws brand standards, whiskey profiles and key selling points. Training on cocktail offerings will be key to the success of our bar team.
  • Leadership Engagement
    • Foster relationships with community partners, vendors, competitors, and neighbors.
    • Support marketing by educating customers about the Laws story and values through knowledgeable interactions and tastings.
    • Work with the marketing team to utilize social media to promote the tasting room and its features, as well as events and new releases.
    • Provide and engage in strategic planning related to whiskey releases, events, marketing innovative ideas.
    • Continuously looking for ways to improve processes, enhance business operations, profitability, guest experiences and co-worker engagement.
    • Engage with non-profit community to increase awareness of Laws facility.
  • Enhanced Guest Experience
    • Serve and sell alcohol responsibly including TIPS training.
    • Consistently offer friendly, informed, and personal customer service.
    • Help implement & maintain the cleanliness of the tasting room.
    • Maintain a welcoming, exciting, educational, and fun visitor experience.
    • Monitor and manage capacity limits.
    • Handles delicate or difficult guest situations including complaints, negative reviews, and ensures resolution.
    • Supervise the development and creation of cocktail and food offerings.
    • Supervise the development, creation, ordering, and sales of Laws merchandise.
  • Daily Operations
    • Monitors and completes administrative work to include daily sales reports, reconciliation, invoicing, and other accounting type duties.
    • Institutes and maintains cost control systems including the maintenance of accurate pricing and inventory.
    • Approves all invoices & PO’s.
    • Maintains a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment: establish, follow, and enforce sanitation standards and procedures, comply with health and legal regulations, and observe distillery safety and sustainability practices.
    • Recruit, secure and monitor product and service vendors and supervise ordering and scheduling of same.
    • Keep up with all law changes that may impact the bar.
  • Profitable Growth
    • Review order history, sales reports, and other relevant data to monitor profit & loss.
    • Works with the CFO to build, execute, and manage the budget to achieve P&L goals.
    • Maintain margin goals.
    • Manage daily reconciliation.

 
Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, some college education is preferred.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Minimum of at least 5 years of experience managing a high-volume tasting room/restaurant/bar.
  • Knowledge and experience with restaurant/tasting room/brewery POS systems and time management systems.
  • Serv Safe and TIPS certified.
  • Ability to effectively manage and inspire people.
  • Be able to work in a sitting & standing position.
  • Job requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping & lifting (up to 75 lbs.)
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Compensation

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000/year depending on experience
