Lawrence High School is seeking exceptional teachers to join our team who possess a growth mindset, value collaboration and continuous feedback, are passionate about their content, and have an unwavering belief that all students are capable of meeting rigorous academic expectations.BRYT Program SummaryThe Bridge for Resilient Youth in Transition (BRYT) program is an innovative program at Lawrence High School helping teens and their families with the process of reentry and reintegration into the school community following extended absences due to medical or mental health crisis. BRYT facilitates re-entry by providing academic and emotional skill building, home/school collaboration and case management. Students participate in the program for a temporary period of time (6-12 weeks) while they are transitioning back to full participation in their school schedule of classes. The teacher is responsible for supervision and management of students who are enrolled in BRYT, and to assist in supporting students’ acute mental health and social/emotional needs. The program is led by a full time Adjustment Counselor/Clinical Coordinator who works closely with other personnel in the school.Job Goal: To help students needing intensive support in returning to or transitioning back into their school routine and classes to make rapid progress toward achieving credits needed to complete the school year and stay on track for meeting graduation requirements.Core Duties and Responsibilities:Work collaboratively to align curriculum to the rigor of the MA Curriculum FrameworksImplement common assessments that measure progress towards academic standardsUse data from formative and summative assessments to inform instructionCollaborate with Special Education and ESL teachers to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all studentsParticipate in biweekly instructional coaching sessions to improve instructional practices.Communicate weekly with students and families around academic and behavioral progress.Implements the academic component of the overall BRYT case management/re-entry support plan for each student in BRYTPlans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, including modifying existing curriculum in collaboration with students’ teachers allowing BRYT students to rapidly achieve grades/credit.Assists students with their academic readiness skills (organization, planning, prioritizing, etc) and provides support to stay focused on completing academic tasksDevelops and maintains a assignment/assessment work trackers and academic data management for studentsIn partnership with BRYT Program School Adjustment Counselor, engage in two-way communication with families and school staff that keeps them apprised of student progress, challenges, and recommendations to further student learning and well-beingCollaborate with school personnel (teachers, guidance counselors, etc.) regarding the student’s progress in completing course work, recommending modifications, accommodations and other supportsProvide additional support to the BRYT Program School Adjustment Counselor, as needed, such as coaching students to learn and use coping strategies, gather data on student engagement in BRYT which is shared at progress meetings with familiesSupervise the BRYT classroom regularly, take attendance, assist with the students’ daily needs, and create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of studentsThe demonstration of sensitivity to the social-emotional and mental health needs of students with a high degree of confidentiality required; also maintaining appropriate professional boundariesThe ability to receive constructive feedback in a professional mannerOther duties as assignedDesired Skills and Characteristics of a LHS teacher:Driving desire to disrupt inequity and improve outcomes for all studentsCommitment to the academic and personal success of Lawrence Public Schools’ students and familiesProven experience supporting English Language LearnersAbility to take initiative and succeed in a fast-paced school environment while remaining calm and focused when faced with unexpected challengesDemonstrated capacity to create and maintain a positive learning environment in which students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected and utilized.Will to improve practice by taking and implementing frequent feedbackHumility and a good sense of humorExperience/demonstrated interest in working with high school students experiencing complex challengesStrong communication, interpersonal skills, patience, and organization skillsEffective oral and written communication skillsExperience working with adolescents and families struggling with complex challenges, including mental health challenges, causing extended absences from schoolExcellent case management skillsAbility to innovate, think creatively and critically, and actively find solutions to new and familiar challenges
