Summary
The Director is responsible for the management of the operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) functions and activities (i.e., clerical, chart completion, coding, release of information, transcription, etc.) for all departments of Lawrence Memorial Hospital including rural health clinics. The Director assumes the responsibility for implementing effective policies & procedures and monitoring the activities of the HIM areas to assure that all processes are value added and performed in an error-free, quality fashion. All work carried out in accordance with the rule's regulations and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Arkansas Medicaid and The Joint Commission (TJC). Responsibility for the coding and abstracting of medical records diagnosis and procedures working from the appropriate documentation in the medical record. Classification systems used include ICD-10-CM and CPT.HCPCS, including modifiers. Assigns reimbursement methodology with the assistance of an encoder and computer assisted coding. Abstracts demographic and physician data to meet both internal and regulatory requirements for reporting utilizing the hospital’s abstracting system. Ability to understand the clinical content of the health record and utilize an electronic health record to perform job duty.
Serves as Privacy Officer oversees the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to privacy policies and procedures regarding the safe use and handling of protected health information (PHI) in compliance with federal and state Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) regulation.
Serves as Co-Joint Commission Coordinator, which supports exceptional hospital clinical outcomes and patient safety using knowledge of applicable TJC, CMS, and state standards and/or regulations; uses tracer, audit and tracking tools to monitor Conditions of Participation and TJC standards compliance on a rotating basis throughout the year; identifies areas of high risk for more intense monitoring and intervention.
Education
An Associate’s degree and hold a current Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification.
Experience
Three (3) years' experience in a medical records department. Previous management experience preferred.
