Job Description

Boutique law firm is seeking a full-time associate attorney licensed in Virginia. This is an entry level to mid level position perfect for someone with 0 to 10 years-experience. Duties will consist of evaluating and if needed trying both criminal and civil/domestic relations cases in Virginia's Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts and General District Courts, negotiating cases with opposing counsel and prosecutors, working with office staff and working with other attorneys in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and manage as lead attorney cases in Virginia's Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts and General District Courts, including, but not limited to:

- Criminal defense matters such as traffic infractions, reckless driving cases, DUI cases, No Operator’s License cases, Driving on Suspended/Restricted License cases

- Juvenile Court Custody, Visitation and support cases

- Protective Orders

- Unlawful Detainers

- Warrant in Debt (Contract Claims)

Represent clients in court proceedings.

  • Transactional Work (may be done remotely)

- Estate Planning

- Transactional Drafting

- Legal Research and Briefing

- Discovery Review, Coordination and Drafting

  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in the legal process.
  • Conduct settlement negotiations and assist with mediations or arbitrations when necessary.
  • Create, maintain, and update client litigation files on a daily basis in accordance with standards set by the Records Management Center using the electronic Records Management database and maintains other files as needed. Must have thorough knowledge of indexing litigation files. Maintains current files for all correspondence.
  • Facilitate work with the Accounting Department to coordinate client bills, generates monthly internal utilization reports, provides monthly and/or quarterly estimate reporting data, analyzes billing data, and responds to miscellaneous client inquiries/requests. Process new business forms, new client/matter reports, and conflict of interest checks.
  • Proofread and revise all documents, including engagement letters, PowerPoint presentations, memoranda, audit letters, client deliverables, and other correspondence, etc., for accuracy, grammar, punctuation and syntax, and drafts correspondence.
  • Coordinate work performed by Support Services for prompt production and delivery of documents.
  • Type and prepare legal papers and correspondence such as briefs, letters, memoranda, tables, charts/spreadsheets, complaints, and motions. Also generates Table of Contents, Table of Authorities, and redline documents.
  • Perform other job-related duties such as compiling notebooks and exhibits, and preparing documents in connection with bar association activities. Also perform other administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in the state of Virginia.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $85,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
