Responsible for providing hospital telecommunication services through the use of telephones, pagers, the paging system, radio, or computer to connect communication between visitors, callers, staff, patients, and patients' families. May maintain records related to telecommunications (e.g., long distance phone calls, on-call employees, pages). Integrates the hospital’s mission and “Guiding Principles” into daily practice.
1. Answers and transfers incoming calls. Greets visitors and maintains visitor log.
2. Pages staff as required.
3. Relays messages and information to requested party(ies).
4. Communicates with appropriate staff during emergency situations and drills.
5. Complies with emergency procedures such as code blue, fire and external disaster, etc.
6. Provides customer service to hospital staff and visitors.
7. Provide backup as an Admissions Representative. Conduct admissions of patients, including required paperwork. Generate inpatient census report. Complete data entry pertaining to charge and adjustment entries.
8. Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the department.
Minimum Education and Experience
· One year of reception experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
· OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Demonstrates general computer skills including: data entry, word processing, email, and record management.
· Effective organizational and time management skills.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
· Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
· Ability to work closely and professionally with others.
