JOB SUMMARY:
The Licensed Nursing Assistant will provide care and clinical support to medical office practitioners under the supervision of a licensed RN/LPN, APRN, PA or MD.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Majority of duties, but not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary.)
  • Using the EMR, maintain patient medical records per company policy and procedures utilizing standard language and abbreviations and following accepted medical standards for documentation.
  • Assist with provision of routine nursing care to patients within the designated LNA scope defined by the Vermont State Board of Nursing.
  • Observe universal precaution practices at all times during performance of duties.
  • Coordinate and prioritize patient flow to include provider’s daily patient schedule and walk-in patients.
  • Instruct and prepare patient, assemble equipment and assist provider for procedures and routine exams as appropriate.
  • Assist in screening evaluations as appropriate.
  • Participate in and manage, as appropriate, communication with other providers and organizations regarding patient orders and/or directives.
  • Complete diagnostic testing as outlined in current standing orders and as directed by the medical practitioner.
  • Coordinate and assist in arranging for any laboratory/diagnostic testing and specialty referrals as directed by the medical practitioner, obtaining prior authorization as necessary.
  • Assist with tracking diagnostic testing and referrals as needed.
  • Assist, maintenance and distribution of current and appropriate patient educational materials.
  • Maintain necessary skills and knowledge to obtain and maintain integrity in the collection, storage, packaging, labeling and transportation of specimens to the lab following Universal Precaution guidelines.
  • Maintain competencies for Point of Care Testing annually.
  • Follow CLIA and/or COLA guidelines for laboratory management.
  • Monitor, maintain and assist with procuring appropriate supplies for clinical setting.
  • Clean examination room tables, countertops and equipment as appropriate and necessary.
  • Wash, package, and prepare instruments for sterilization per regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist administrative staff as needed and able, i.e., schedule patients, answer telephones and medical record management.
  • Assist with new employee training and on-going training for practice site staff.
  • Maintain and abide by company policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Provide quality customer service at all times, communicating effectively with patients in a manner that protects their confidentiality and is sensitive to their physical, emotional, cultural, spiritual and age specific needs.
  • Assume an appropriate professional demeanor and attire while in the clinic setting.
  • Actively establish, maintain and work cooperatively with internal and external professional relationships.
  • Participate in professional activities and consistently seek manners of self-education to broaden knowledge base of clinical, technical and legal developments in the healthcare setting
  • Assume special projects as directed and recognize opportunities for projects which will benefit the goals of CHSLV.
  • Support the coordination of activities with other staff in order to support the organizational mission.
  • Abide by the organizan’s Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct during term of employment.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.)

    ertification fromVermont State Board of Nursing.
  • Previous experience working with patients in a health care setting; medical office setting preferred.
  • Demonostrated ability to multitask, work in a fast pacedenvironement, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonostrated ability to deal effectively with patients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have knowledge of, or willingness to learn, basic computer and word processing skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
(Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.)
Internal- Work is normally performed in climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is limited. May spend considerable time walking and standing. Must observe universal precautions and standardized guidelines to guard against disease and other dangers, such as those posed by radiation, accidental needle sticks, chemicals used to sterilize instruments, and anesthetics. In addition, may be vulnerable to injury when moving patients, shocks from electrical equipment, and hazards posed by compressed gases. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.).
External- Travel is not expected in this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
(The physical effort generally associated with this position.)
Work involves standing and walking for long periods of time, but some duties are performed from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading catalogues and computer screen. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. Work may include occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing approximately 50 pounds such as files, documents, equipment and soft goods. Work normally requires finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination and ability to communicate in-person and by telephone.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervision is received from the Managing Physician and/or Director of Primary Care Services
