Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
The Graphic Designer works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Creative Services to produce high-quality creative designs that align with Lamar University’s brand guidelines. The role is responsible for the development of print and digital graphics for university marketing efforts and also provides creative support to a number of campus entities.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities
  • Conceptualizes, designs, and implements creative graphics and content, for print and digital media
  • Works with a wide range of media with industry-standard design software
  • Works as a part of a team with copywriters, photographers, videographers, other designers, web developers and marketing liaisons
  • Proofreads and edits copy when necessary
  • Builds and keeps track of multiple timelines for various projects at once
  • Contributes to team effort by working collaboratively and accepting duties as assigned, incorporating multiple revisions while keeping a keen attention to detail
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications and tutorials
  • Provides photography for projects when needed
Key Competencies:
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite including: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and as constructive member of a team
  • Creative, detail-oriented, research driven and analytical
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a willingness to be flexible
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including good proofreading skills
  • Ability to effectively plan and execute short and long-term projects that make efficient use of resources, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives
  • Familiarity with print production, with knowledge of printing processes and materials, social media platforms and video and photography equipment
  • Familiarity with AP style and copywriting
  • Works well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or marketing communications related field
  • Understanding of color theory, design principles, typography and general marketing strategy
  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating critical thinking, strong concept development, and the ability to carry a design across several mediums
  • Experience working within brand guidelines
  • Experience in project management from conception to delivery in a timely manner, on budget and in collaboration with others
