Lake County is Hiring a Counselor III - Substance Abuse Program $2,500 SIGN ON BONUS Near Outpatient Substance Abuse Program, IL

The Counselor III is a valuable member of our Substance Abuse Program team who is responsible for evaluating, assessing, and referring clients. Plans and implements a treatment plan with clients on assigned caseloads. Conducts individual, group, and family counseling, case management, outreach, education, monitoring, referral, linkage, follow-ups, and documentation. The position will be working with criminal justice-involved clients with substance use disorder. Assists with overdose education and naloxone distribution to first responders, community organizations, and community members in Lake County, IL. This position requires travel throughout Lake County.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who
  • Provides community education services as assigned and as self-initiated.
  • Excellent knowledge of substance abuse. 
  • Compassion and understanding with patience. 
Schedule Hours: 37.5 hours a week
  • Monday-Friday (8:00am-4:00pm) 
  • Provides direct services to clients including individual and group treatment.
  • Maintains regular contact with an active caseload.
  • Consult with the supervisor regarding transfer/placement of a client to another level of service, as needed.
  • Facilitates with clients and collaborates with the treatment team to develop, review, and update
  • treatment goals and referrals both internally and externally.
  • Assists clients in obtaining public entitlements, housing, community resources, etc.
  • Attends staffing's with Court Services and others, as necessary.
  • Organizes and participates in treatment-related clinical conferences and staffings on assigned clients.
  • Conducts crisis intervention/evaluation/referral to persons who present themselves at the program.
  • Performs initial evaluations and assessments of potential clients regarding their appropriateness for participation in the program.
  • Provides education on overdose prevention and naloxone to first responders, community agencies and community members in locations across Lake County, IL.
  • Distributes naloxone to community organizations
  • Develops and maintains positive partnerships with allied community service providers and first responders.
  • Provides education and direction to clients, family members and/or significant others.
  • Assists in facilitating transportation of clients. 
  • Associate’s degree and five (5) years’ experience in behavioral sciences, or
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years’ experience in behavioral sciences, or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience in behavioral sciences, or
  • Master’s degree in behavioral sciences and no experience
  • Must obtain certification as an Alcohol/Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC) by the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Board (I.A.O.D.A.P.C.A.) or have equivalent certification by a similar state or national board, or
  • Licensed by the State of Illinois as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW).
