Job Description – Food Safety/Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager

Location: Lawrenceville, GA

Overview:

The FSQA Manager serves as the primary resource for the implementation of food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory programs. The incumbent will be a critical resource for all functional groups that have an impact on food safety. Expected knowledge will include the effective implementation of critical programs such as HACCP, Sanitation, Allergen Management, Internal Audit, CAPA, GMPs, and familiarity with GFSI schemes such as SQF, BRC, PrimusGFS, and other similar standards. The incumbent is expected to have familiarity with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and other regulatory requirements.

Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:

  • Responsible for the development and effective implementation of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
  • Works with multiple functional groups to assess the overall impact to food safety, quality, and compliance of applicable functions and operations.
  • Applying a structured process to change management activities and managing all aspects of change management related to manufacturing and packaging.
  • Works with functional group peers to define required KPIs while maintaining cost-effectiveness, safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Effectively collaborate across all operational, technical, and commercial functions at all levels of the organization to assure product performance and efficacy requirements are fulfilled.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily management of the FSMS and all applicable programs
  • Primary responsibility for effective implementation of all applicable SQF programs, as required by the applicable/current edition.
  • Administers change management processes and procedures to include coordination of requests for change and aiding in controlling the lifecycle of those changes.
  • Monitors ingredient, product, process, package quality performance during change management and assures successful implementation.
  • Works closely with R&D and Supply Chain to evaluate the impact of change management guided by policies and practices.
  • Develops applicable food safety objectives/KPIs and create actionable deliverables.
  • Provide monthly management reports on the status of the FSMS.
  • Follows up on KPIs and escalates issues as needed.
  • Apply continual improvement and communicate lessons learned to further improvements in policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Adheres to communication, reporting, monitoring, and audit requirements.
  • Supports policies, procedures, processes, and principles that complies with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, and assures appropriate monitoring and evaluation

Education:

B. S. in a Science Related field (Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology or other technical science area); Masters’ degree a plus

Background:

  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in QA/QC, Food Safety, or similar technical areas in the food/beverage/nutritional industry
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of product technology, quality and safety risk assessment, and statistical process control
  • Exhibits proficiency in product related calculations and knowledge of relationships between regulations, labeling, manufacturing processes, and product/package attributes.
  • Ability to develop, understand and adhere to policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Proficient technical writing skills; able to communicate technical issues effectively and concisely.
  • Ability to effectively organize and communicate technical information.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous manner in difficult situations.
  • Ability to maintain high quality work to manage multiple tasks/projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for nutritional products.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and/or function with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and analytical thinking.

This position reports to the General Manager, The position ensures that all products meet the highest standards for safety and quality required by regulations and customers and consumers.
