About La Puente Home, Inc.
La Puente is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Colorado's San Luis Valley by providing food, shelter, and advocacy for the homeless and community members in crisis. La Puente was founded in 1982 and endeavors to meet immediate needs and to empower people to live independently with dignity. The organization operates a homeless shelter and soup kitchen, a network of 14 food pantries, homeless prevention services, a transitional living program, after school and summer program for at-risk children, and a community garden and nutrition education program.

Job purpose
The La Puente Engagement Specialist assists in efforts to maintain relationships and coordinate with members of the Homeless community served by Street Outreach. The Engagement Specialist will distribute supplies, assess needs, network and create action plans alongside clients with the support of other members of the Street Outreach staff. There will be a particular focus on clients residing at formal and informal homeless encampments located in Alamosa. The position requires ongoing understanding of other La Puente programs as well as connection with outside organizations and the network of service providers in the San Luis Valley. The Engagement Specialist will routinely visit the St. Benedict’s encampment as well as informal encampments and communicate with Street Outreach team members about the needs of clients that reside there. There will be a need for on site case management of clients living outside. The Engagement Specialist will also help maintain up to date client information and data for reporting purposes.
Duties and responsibilities
Street Outreach Program:
La Puente’s Street Outreach Program addresses the needs of individuals in our community who are experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of homelessness, with the goals of improving safety and building trust in order to connect individuals to the best resources for their situation.
o Case Management of individuals experiencing homelessness and those at-risk of experiencing homelessness
o Track data related to the individuals served
o Continued evaluation of service provided to clients to determine benefit and outcomes
o Being on-call for crisis situations in our community
o Supply management
o Visiting formal and informal encampments
o Building relationship with clients and the wider community
o Maintaining current knowledge of resources and thus can connect to those resources
o Collaborating with local partners to coordinate resources
Public Relations:
The Engagement Specialist will assist with all aspects of public relations concerning La Puente’s Street Outreach. This position will also participate in tours and presentations as necessary. This position will be a liaison to local stakeholders, partners and potential collaborators.
Special Events:
The Engagement Specialist will work with La Puente staff and the Community Education Director to support the participation and logistics of La Puente’s special events, as needed.

● Full-time
● Work in an office environment in Alamosa.
● Spend time visiting clients in the field. Ex: under bridges, grocery stores, on the river trail, at the City Encampment, etc.
● Flexible schedule: Typically Mon-Fri 9-5, some weekend or evening work is necessary
● Will travel occasionally for training, donation pick-ups, or presentations.
