Teacher Job Description

General Summary

Under the supervision of the La Escuelita Site Director, the Teacher develops and implements individual educational plans for children, which help them to develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their stage of development. The Teacher works collaboratively with the Teacher Assistant.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Preschool Teachers

  • High School/GED
  • Pre School CDA or Minimum of 18 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education
  • Minimum 1 year experience

Infant/Toddler/Two’s Teachers

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • An Infant/Toddler CDA or Illinois Gateways Infant/Toddler credential or 18 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education
  • Minimum 1 year experience

School-Age Teacher

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 1 year experience

All Teachers

  • Proof of a physical examination within the last six months, which includes a tuberculosis test, MMR, TDAP
  • Comply with other background checks as required by DCFS licensing standards
  • Proof of Education per DCFS Licensing Standards
  • Comply with Adler Schools #1, Inc Personal and Parent Handbook, Comply with DCFS Licensing standards for daycare centers.
  • Have education or experience in collaborating with parents in the education of their children.
  • Participate in Adler Schools#1, Inc New Staff Orientation

Essential Functions:

  • Create and maintain a safe environment that enhances thrust, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical grow of our children.
  • Manage and implement Creative Curriculum standards as it pertains to the classroom program and ensure all information is entered into the designated operating data base (Teaching Strategies Gold)
  • Create weekly lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and meets our children needs.
  • Plan and implement learning experiences that promote all developmental areas, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy and phonemic, print, numeric awareness, and language-including English as a second language if applicable
  • Able to participate as team on a daily basis curriculum and adding the necessary parental contribution.
  • Maintain a positive and warm relationship with every child as well with family members.
  • Supervise, monitor, coach and provide input in evaluation of co-teachers, volunteers student teachers etc.
  • Cooperate with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children
  • Evaluate the process on every child on an on-going basis and implement the necessary modifications as well as explore new curriculum ideas by utilizing external sources that meets children needs.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing child binder, including weekly observations in each area, examples of the child's work, and developmental assessment following Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Database
  • Conduct Parent/Teacher conferences as well as Home Visits
  • Supervise, arrange and participate indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safety.
  • Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including: daily activities, field trips, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Eat with and assist children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices
  • Attend staff training and meetings, and board and parent meetings as requested
  • Works with the Teacher Assistant and volunteers to use and develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities
  • Use the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe
  • Assist in conducting the daily health and environment check list
  • Assist in implementing children's I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) seeking clarification for any aspects that are not well understood
  • Complete and submit required forms, documentation, and records in a timely and set deadlines by Adler Schools #1, Inc performance standards e.g., lesson plans, portfolio forms, assessment, time sheets, meal reports etc
  • Actively assists in transition activities
  • Distribute newsletters, flyers, and other information to families as instructed by the Site Director
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Teacher Professional Development Plan
  • Assure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained
  • Perform other duties, as may be required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful experience working in a team setting;
  • Ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with a Teacher Assistant, assisting her/him in increasing professional knowledge and skills
  • Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement position responsibilities
  • Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if need
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer and office equipment, including, but not limited to, the telephone, fax machine, copier, and cd player
  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds
  • Experience successfully working with a culturally diverse staff and clients.

Working Conditions:

  • Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases
  • Job requires standing for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, and running
  • A moderate amount of driving may be required

Requirements

  • Must be able to work as team with all staff members
  • Must appreciate cultural differences and respond to individual learning styles.
  • 15 hours training in early childhood education per year
  • First Aid/ CPR & First Aid Certifications (Required)
  • Illinois Food Handler Certificate (Required)
  • Illinois Gateway Membership (Required)
  • Bilingual (Preferred)
