Superintendent Job Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Coaching subcontractors on safe construction practices
  • Quality control, ensuring all subcontractor deficiencies are corrected
  • Maintaining the project schedule and establishing the critical path for subs and vendors
  • Oversee and making decisions related to the performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control, and trade employee staffing levels.
  • Facilitating and encouraging subcontractor coordination
  • Working with design team and owner to overcome challenges / unforeseen conditions
  • Reviewing all drawings, specifications, and submittals
  • Daily progress reports and weekly schedule updates
  • Supervise and develop Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and/or interns as assigned, including providing input on or completing performance appraisals.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Detailed experience with subcontractor and construction sequencing
  • Understanding of ASI’s, RFI’s and Material Submittals
  • Must work well in a team environment and be committed to client service
  • Manage the billing process as it relates to work in place and overseeing monthly estimate of work completed, payrolls, material invoices, and subcontractor pay applications.
  • Must be willing to travel within the state of California
  • Excellent listening skills and strong communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative approaches and solutions on a project-by-project basis.
  • Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
  • Effective participation in a team environment, with both external and internal teammates.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and scheduling software (MS Project or similar).

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:Minimum 10 years construction experience. Minimum 5 years supervisory experience. Experience with negotiated, Lease-leaseback, and Design/Build delivery methods. Knowledge of building construction, means and methods, scheduling, cost control procedures, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Math Ability:Calculate figures and amounts such as, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 

Reasoning Ability:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions related to the building trades

Computer Skills:Experience with Microsoft Office, MS Project and Blue Beam

Certificates and Licenses:A valid Driver’s License / OSHA 30 / Additional certification as applicable preferred

Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for up to 12 hours per day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
