Job Description:

We need help on a project researching and developing capabilities at the intersection of hardware devices, signal processing, and the realities of physics where things don't operate like the textbooks say they do. The Embedded Software, Hardware, & DSP Hacker will contribute to the design and implementation of lab-based experiments so we can research physical phenomena, will be responsible for modeling and simulation to quantify how those phenomena are useful, will perform analysis of experimental results to refine capabilities based on those phenomena, and will design and implement tools to reproduce the most interesting observed effects. This role calls for the creative application of multiple skill sets in a small, agile team that is working to develop and deliver advanced capabilities to our Sponsors. This is the type of job where you say, "hey, that's strange…", spend months reproducing and honing the "strange", and end up with something indistinguishable from magic to those who expect that their devices will always operate like the manufacturers say they will.
Minimum Qualifications:

Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, math/physics, or equivalent hands-on experience
Experience developing, debugging, and analyzing real-time embedded firmware — mobile, low-SWAP (size, weight, and power) devices preferred
Comfortable reading and writing C
Comfortable reading and writing Python (preferred) or other high-level programming/scripting languages
Familiarity with one or more assembly languages
Familiarity with common embedded communications interfaces such as SPI, I2C, etc.
Familiarity with test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, logic analyzers, etc.
Experience with electrical and mechanical assembly techniques for lab-based experimentation and rapid prototyping — breadboards, breakout boards, and basic soldering

Nice-to-have Qualifications:

Familiarity with DSP algorithms and analysis techniques — radio communications and/or audio processing experience preferred
Knowledge of software vulnerability classes, vulnerability research techniques
Experience with hardware or software reverse engineering
Experience with automated program analysis, fuzzing, symbolic execution, and emulation
Understanding of digital and/or analog circuits
Familiarity with the design and/or implementation of hardware front ends for observing and generating real-world signals
Experience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis, especially for signal processing applications
Experience with modeling and simulation frameworks
Experience with git, issue boards, testing, and other software development best practices
