The Role:

The Controller guards the financial resources of the organization by managing, developing, and monitoring financial and internal controls. The controller is responsible for ensuring that the financial information for the organization is timely and accurate by establishing policies and procedures that can be implemented and tracked throughout the accounting process. Drives process improvements by constantly challenging current processes and seeking best practices. Serves as a member of Pension Committee and Capital Committee, and be an active participant in the Audit and Compliance Committee and Finance Committee. Attendance at other key committee and operational meetings as required. Ensures accurate processing of bi-weekly payrolls with adherence to HR and payroll policies and collective bargaining agreements. The controller responsibility encompasses Accounting, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.

Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures operations' effective achievement of objectives. Reviews and approves recommendations for operational planning and control. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of department, division, or organization.

The Controller has significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and programs, manages significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. Oversees through subordinate managers the accountability and stewardship of department resources and the development of systems and procedures to protect organizational assets.

Responsible for the accurate production of the monthly internal financial statements.

· Establish a monthly close schedule which details the steps required to close the general ledger in the most organized and efficient manner.

· Develop monthly financial reporting package to enable CFO to review the financial statements, key risk areas and statistics. To include monthly operating review of both revenue and expense performance compared to budget and prior year.

· Accurate and timely recognition of expenses, reviewing the work of accounting staff related to expense recognition.

· Accurate and timely recognition of net revenues including understanding the revenue systems, reviewing the work of the revenue accountants and coordinating with the patient accounting department. Includes monthly analysis of net revenue performance compared to both budget and prior year.

· Analyze transactions and ensure that internal policies and controls are in place with regard all transactions that are recorded in the general ledger.

· Review and sign off on all areas of risk and journal entries over a significant dollar threshold.

· Determine that all assets and liabilities are accurately reflected in the current period in the general ledger.

· Support other general ledger requests and analysis as required.

Requirements

9-12 years of experience in finance, acctg., business systems operations and regulatory compliance
7-9 years of managerial experience
Healthcare experience in finance/accounting preferredFinancial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) experience preferredBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
