Coding Specialist I

Position Summary:

Participates in coding noncomplex diagnoses and procedural information on medical records (OP Workqueue) according to ICD and CPT principles and conventions. Works closely with management and/or seasoned staff to learn payment methodologies, i.e. APCs, for the services being coded.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and timely codes and abstracts records per the Coding Department productivity and quality standards
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements as well as applicable professional standards
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Current enrollment or recent completion of an accredited coding program (i.e., RHIT, AHIMA)
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of 3M 360/EPIC Software preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
  • Must be able to maintain a sitting position
  • Typical equipment used in an office job
  • Repetitive movements
  • Remote eligible
