Nurse Apprentice I
Position Summary
A Nurse Apprentice I (NA I) is a currently enrolled nursing student who is employed in a non-licensed capacity by an Idaho Board of Nursing approved health care agency. A nurse apprentice may, under licensed registered nurse supervision, perform all functions approved by the Board for unlicensed assistive personnel. The NA I will take a full assignment as an unlicensed assistive personnel.
Responsibilities
Works with the patient's physical, motor/sensory adaptation, cognitive, and psychological needs specific to the population being served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards. When possible, the family or those significant to the family are considered as part of the care
Supports the department by answering call lights for all patients and notifies staff responsible if unable to meet patient need
Follows the delegation process when receiving requests from a team member
Reads charts, dials, equipment settings, literature, and other printed and handwritten materials
Communicates with patients, physicians, families, and co-workers in person and/or on telephone
Assists patients with activities of daily living
Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and/or gathers vital signs
Aids physicians and nursing staff members with procedures
Utilizes the electronic medical record to document patient care
Performs other related duties as assigned
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
Actively enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing program
Successful completion of a Nursing Fundamentals course
Proof of a Nurse Apprentice Approval Letter from the Idaho Board of Nursing
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, etc.
BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver
Working Conditions
Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
Must be able to lift and move up to 35 lbs
Typical equipment used in a clinical role
Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
Must be able to assist in patient transfer
