KOMAN Government Solutions, LLC is Hiring an Environmental Scientist Near Marlborough, MA

KOMAN Government Solutions, LLC (KGS), a wholly-owned 8(a) subsidiary of the Natives of Kodiak (NOK), provides high-quality remediation, consulting, engineering, waste management, munition and construction services. KGS is characterized by our financial stability, positive and profitable growth and an excellent safety record. Our client base includes the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Marines, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Guard Bureau, Federal Aviation Administration, as well as various state, municipal and commercial entities.

We have an immediate need for an Environmental Scientist to assist with field components of environmental investigation and remediation projects for federal customers throughout New England and elsewhere within the US.

Essential Functions:

  • Support project managers with development of work plans and procurement of subcontractors required for projects (develop subcontractor scopes of work and procurement documents).
  • Prepare field forms, equipment, and materials for field work.
  • Provide oversight of subcontractors during soil boring, monitoring well installations, geophysical surveys, and land surveying.
  • Collect environmental samples (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air) for laboratory analysis.
  • Perform well development.
  • Survey with GPS and laser level and log soil borings and bedrock cores.
  • Support operations and maintenance of remedial systems.
  • Support report preparation.
  • Maintain internal and external client relationships.
  • Communicate effectively with project team, customers, and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university required. Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental or Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Four or more years of experience in environmental services or remediation with an emphasis on executing field investigations and associated reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental compliance with federal regulations (CERCLA, CAA, CWA, SDWA, RCRA (subtitles C, D, X) and/or state regulations (Massachusetts Contingency Plan).
  • Experience working for USEPA, Department of Defense and other federal agencies, and New England state environmental agencies.
  • Current OSHA 40-hour training for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and current OSHA 8-hour Refresher HAZWOPER training.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, and organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake frequent travel (30-60%), including the potential for extended travel (multiple weeks).
  • Ability to work overtime and availability outside of normal business hours.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine plans, reports, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to pass background checks required for military base access.

  • The average salary range for this position is between $70,000-$85,000 and will be based on factors such as experience, education, and geographical location.
